Many babies with Down syndrome have a broken palm, so some mothers almost collapse after finding out that their children have a broken palm. In fact, there is no scientific basis for judging whether a baby has Down syndrome just by looking at the broken palm. Eighty percent of the occurrence of broken palms is caused by genetic factors. Therefore, when your baby has a broken palm, don’t be discouraged. The most important thing is to observe your baby in time to see if he has the characteristics of a Down syndrome child.
Because most babies with Down syndrome have the characteristic of broken palm lines, but it does not mean that the baby with broken palm lines will definitely have Down syndrome. This is equivalent to: most men smoke, but that doesn’t mean that all smokers are men. Of course, if the baby really has Down syndrome, there will definitely be other symptoms. 2. Appearance and facial features The most obvious special facial features of Down syndrome patients are their facial features. The eyes are wide apart; the nose is flat with the outer corners of the eyes tilted upwards; the ears are smaller than normal; the tongue is short and enlarged and cannot be completely retracted into the mouth, so they drool constantly;
The hair is loose and sparse; the back of the head is flat, and the entire head is smaller and shorter than that of a normal person; the neck is also slightly short; the teeth grow slowly and are easily dislocated and uneven; and in terms of the body, because the limbs are relatively short, the overall appearance is relatively short; the fingers are fat and thick, and the distance between the thumb and index finger is relatively far.
This is also one of the most obvious characteristics of children with Down syndrome. Their IQ is generally between 20-50, and becomes gradually more obvious with age. Physical development, motor development and sexual development are slower than those of normal children. It will also be accompanied by other defects such as heart disease, leukemia, etc. The patient's body is particularly weak and relaxed. 5. Language Barrier The average age at which children with Down syndrome begin to learn to speak is as late as 4 to 6 years old. 95% of them have pronunciation defects, hoarse voices, and unclear articulation. The incidence of stuttering is high, and more than 1/3 have abnormal speech rhythm and even explosive sounds. |
