The baby always keeps his mouth open

Babies do not have the ability to express themselves. Many times, if there is something abnormal in their body, they will not express it themselves, but will manifest it through some subtle changes in the body. As parents, we should carefully observe the changes in our children's bodies and detect any abnormalities in time. There are many possible reasons why babies always keep their mouths open, some of which may be due to illness, and parents need to know the reasons. So, why do babies always have their mouths open?

1. The baby's nose is blocked by mucus and other mucus

Sometimes babies have nasal mucus in their nostrils due to a cold, or because their nostrils have not been cleaned for a long time, the mucus in the nostrils blocks the nostrils and causes difficulty breathing.

If your baby's nostrils are blocked, causing him to sleep with his mouth open, you can use a baby-specific saline spray to soften the mucus in his nose and then use a nasal aspirator to suck it out. Note: Do not use cotton swabs to clean your baby's nostrils, as this may easily injure the baby's nasal cavity.

2. Stuffy nose due to allergies or colds

Some babies are allergic to dust, perfume, pollen, etc., which may cause nasal congestion. Sometimes colds can also cause nasal congestion. Parents should pay close attention at this time, otherwise the baby may develop serious respiratory diseases.

If the blocked nose is caused by allergies or colds, causing the baby to sleep with his mouth open, keep the home environment clean and try to avoid dust, perfume, pollen, cigarettes, etc. that may adversely affect the baby's breathing. At the same time, parents also need to increase their baby's exercise to enhance their baby's immunity.

3. Allergic rhinitis or deviated nasal septum

Allergic rhinitis, deviated nasal septum, etc. can cause the baby to have difficulty breathing, so he has to sleep with his mouth open.

Once the child's deciduous teeth have fully erupted, if the child cannot close his mouth when sleeping, parents need to take him to the hospital to check whether it is caused by allergic rhinitis or deviated nasal septum. If so, active treatment is needed.

4. The baby is too fat

For obese babies, the more soft fat in the throat narrows the airway, so they need to use their mouths to breathe, and sleep apnea syndrome may also occur.

If the baby sleeps with his mouth open because he is too fat, what the mother needs to do is to pay attention to the baby's nutritional balance, eat properly, and let the baby exercise more. If your baby is overweight, you can establish a weight loss plan under the guidance of a doctor. When the fat in your baby's throat is reduced, the symptom of sleeping with the mouth open will be alleviated. At the same time, nasal abnormalities, enlarged tonsils and adenoids can also cause the baby to sleep with his mouth open and snore. If this is the case, parents need to take the baby to the hospital for examination as soon as possible.
