What should I do if my child always grinds his teeth at night?

Many children are prone to grinding their teeth when they sleep at night. In fact, most children grind their teeth because of a lack of vitamins and calcium in their bodies. It may be because the child has tooth decay, which makes the child feel uncomfortable. Therefore, parents should pay attention to the child's constant grinding of teeth and prevent the child from suffering from oral diseases. So what should children do if they grind their teeth at night?

There are three common situations in which teeth grinding occurs:

1. Calcium deficiency: Some children rarely get sun exposure and have an unreasonable diet, which leads to vitamin D deficiency and affects calcium absorption. Once a child is calcium deficient, it may cause irritability, easily wake up during sleep at night, and easily grind teeth. As long as these children supplement with cod liver oil or calcium tablets in time, adjust their diet, go outdoors more often, and get more sun exposure, the bruxism phenomenon will gradually disappear.

2. Excessive excitement before going to bed: Some children watch TV for too long before going to bed, and some tense and bizarre plots are deeply imprinted in their minds; some children listen to thrilling stories or play too much before going to bed, which makes the brain too excited. After falling asleep, the brain remains in an excited state, which will cause bruxism.

3. Overeating at dinner: Some children eat too much at dinner or have a snack before going to bed, so that there is still a lot of food in the gastrointestinal tract when they fall asleep, and the digestive system has to increase its activity to promote digestion. At this time, the masticatory muscles are also mobilized to participate in the movement, causing teeth grinding.

It is possible that children's night teeth grinding may be caused by calcium deficiency, oral diseases or parasitic diseases. You can go to the hospital for trace element examination and symptomatic treatment after a clear diagnosis. It is recommended that the baby drink more water, get more sun, adjust the diet, strengthen nutrition, eat less spicy and irritating food, eat more vegetables and fruits, and eat more meat.
