White spots on baby's lips?

Many mothers will find that after feeding their babies for a period of time, white blisters will appear on their babies' lips. In fact, this phenomenon is called childhood thrush. Many new mothers may not know about it and think it is a big problem and are worried. So what exactly is going on with the white bubbles on the baby's lips? Let's follow the editor to find out~

What causes white spots on baby's lips?

1. Some babies have white spots on their lips, a bit like bubbles. This phenomenon is called thrush, a common disease in infancy. The main manifestation is the appearance of white spots or flakes on the oral mucosa, first seen on the edge of the tongue or cheek mucosa, and then gradually spread to the tongue, gums, palate and pharynx, and may merge into large pieces of white film.

Oral thrush is usually caused by the friction and irritation of the baby's breastfeeding, which leads to calluses on the lips, or by the lip skin absorbing moisture due to soaking in milk, which causes pseudo-blisters to appear, similar to how hands will turn white or blister after being soaked in water for a long time.

It looks like a white bubble from the outside, usually appearing on the tip of the upper lip. If this is the case, the skin will usually peel off after a period of time, and may reappear several times, but it will have no effect on the baby.

2. Common treatment methods for thrush in children

Method 1:

First clean your mouth with 2% sodium bicarbonate solution or 1% hydrogen peroxide, then scrub it clean with a saline cotton ball. Apply once in the morning and evening every day, and it will usually be cured in 2 to 3 days.

Method 2:

You can grind nystatin into powder and mix it with cod liver oil drops, then apply it on the wound or use 1% gentian violet for treatment. Apply it after feeding, and it will generally heal after applying it for 2 to 3 days.

Warm reminder: Mothers should pay attention to the baby's oral hygiene. If the baby is fed with milk powder, the pacifier and other feeding utensils should be disinfected. If the baby is breastfeeding, adults should pay attention to washing hands and cleaning nipples.

3. Supplement: Pale lips in pregnant women may be caused by anemia

Anemia, as the name suggests, means insufficient blood in the body. Insufficient blood will cause the complexion to be pale and the lips to look pale. Anemia in mothers during pregnancy is a common phenomenon, but it must not be ignored and blood must be replenished in time. Common symptoms of anemia include dizziness, fatigue, palpitations, shortness of breath, loss of appetite, pale skin and mucous membranes, and flat nails.

So if your pale lips are caused by anemia, you just need to pay more attention to eating foods that help to replenish blood and supplement iron. For example, in addition to eating a certain amount of meat, liver, and blood tofu, you should also eat fresh vegetables. The liver is rich in iron, vitamin A, and folic acid. Vitamin A also helps the absorption and utilization of iron, so eating liver once a week is very beneficial for preventing anemia. Unsure mothers can go to the hospital for a blood test to determine whether they are anemic.
