Today's children have just learned to walk or crawl, and are curious about things outside. Especially when they are hungry, they will put things picked up from the ground directly into their mouths. They may accidentally inhale foreign objects or eat a hair. You need to observe the child's physical changes. If he keeps coughing, you should go to the hospital for examination in time. It is very dangerous for infants and young children to accidentally inhale or swallow foreign objects. Parents must pay close attention and go to the hospital to seek medical help when appropriate.① Foreign body in the nose Infants and young children often put small paper balls, buttons, melon seeds, fruit cores, small plastic toys, beans, peanuts and other foreign objects into their nasal cavities out of curiosity. When foreign objects are inserted into the nasal cavity, nasal congestion and pain may occur, which are more obvious when pinching the nose. If secondary infection occurs, there may be symptoms such as nasal odor, purulent and bloody secretions. If a foreign object is stuck in the nose, if the child is older and the foreign object is small, you can ask him to press the nostril without the foreign object with his hand and blow hard to blow the foreign object out. You can also use a cotton swab or pepper to stimulate the nasal cavity, causing the child to sneeze and expel the foreign object. If the above methods are ineffective, or the child is too young or the foreign body is too large, the child should be sent to the hospital to have a specialist remove the foreign body.
When a foreign object enters the trachea, the person will immediately and instinctively have a protective cough reflex in an attempt to cough out the foreign object, resulting in a violent cough. If you cannot cough it out, the foreign object will get stuck in the trachea and move up and down with your breathing, then you can hear the foreign object hitting and wheezing in the throat. If the foreign body stays in the bronchus (usually on the right side), in addition to coughing, pneumonia symptoms such as fever and shortness of breath will appear after a few hours. If you find that your child has inhaled a foreign object into the airway, you should immediately let the child lie prone on your knees, lower the child's head (for a small baby, you can hold his or her feet upside down with his or her head down and feet up), and pat his or her back to help the child cough out the foreign object. At the same time, the patient should be rushed to the hospital and the ENT doctor should be asked to use a bronchoscope to remove the foreign body in time.
There are many types of foreign bodies in the digestive tract, such as buttons, coins, pen caps, pins, hairpins, key chains, glass balls, fish bones, etc. If a child accidentally swallows a small, smooth foreign object, there are often no special symptoms. Since foreign objects can be excreted through stool, parents should observe their children's stool carefully (at least 3 days). You can let your child defecate in the potty, flush the feces with water, and look for foreign objects in the fecal sediment. If the foreign object is sharp, such as a pin or hairpin, you should give your child more crude fiber foods, such as leeks, celery and various fruits (bananas, etc.), so that these foods can wrap the swallowed foreign object to avoid damaging the child's stomach or intestinal wall, and observe whether there is any foreign object discharged in the stool. Parents should remember that if they encounter any problems that they cannot solve themselves, they must go to the hospital immediately. |
