Can children use air conditioning when they have a high fever?

In the hot summer, people always turn on the air conditioner to make themselves more comfortable because they can't stand the high temperature. However, not everyone can use air conditioning. Many mothers don’t know whether they can use air conditioning for their children after their children have a fever. In fact, you can use the air conditioner, but you need to pay attention to the temperature that should be appropriate and not too low. Because the air conditioning temperature is too low will cause the child's condition to worsen.

1. Can I use air conditioning when my baby has a fever ?

Yes, you can turn it on, but you have to pay attention to the temperature, which is best around 27 degrees. And after turning on the air conditioner, be careful not to blow it directly on the baby. If your baby's fever reaches 38.5 degrees or above, you must go to the hospital immediately without any delay. In addition, you should give your baby more warm water and pay close attention to changes in his condition.

A cold often causes a fever for 2-4 days, during which time the body temperature will fluctuate. If the child is in good spirits and eats and sleeps normally, parents do not need to worry too much. However, if infants and young children cry constantly, have poor reactions, have a persistent high fever, or even have convulsions, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

After your baby's fever subsides, don't rush to let your baby use air conditioning even if the weather is very hot. If you can avoid turning it on, then do so. Wait until your baby's body recovers to the same level as before, then turn on the air conditioner. This may be better for your baby. The air conditioner does not necessarily have to be turned on. Sometimes, the wind blown by a fan is more natural.

2. Reducing fever in children

Pediatric experts say that fever in children has certain positive significance, indicating that the body is fighting against pathogenic factors. Cooling down is mainly to prevent convulsions or seizures caused by high fever, so corresponding cooling measures should be taken when the body temperature exceeds 39°C. Families can use the following physical cooling methods to cool down:

Warm water bath, warm water sponge bath, mainly scrub the neck, chest, back and limbs; alcohol sponge bath, use 30%~50% alcohol (or Erguotou plus 1 times water), use gauze or a small towel dipped in alcohol to sponge bath, apply force evenly, rub the limbs and back for 3~5 minutes each, the total sponge bath time should be about 20 minutes. When rubbing to the armpits, groin and other areas with rich blood vessels, keep the area for a little longer. Do not rub the chest, back of the neck, and abdomen as these areas are sensitive to cold stimulation. If chills, abnormal complexion, breathing, or pulse occur, stop the bath immediately.

3. What should children eat when they have a fever?

When a person has a fever, the body consumes a lot of nutrients and fluids, so you must pay attention to proper replenishment. Be sure to drink plenty of water, and eat liquid or semi-liquid food, such as noodle soup, porridge, and egg custard, and light food is preferred. Eat some fresh fruits and juice appropriately, preferably pears, watermelons, water chestnuts, etc. Avoid eating greasy, spicy and cold foods. If the child has a decreased appetite and cannot guarantee the intake of nutrition and fluids, he or she should go to the hospital for infusion in time if necessary.
