Reasons why babies don't drink breast milk

There are some very strange babies in life, because they may have many problems while drinking breast milk, some of which are not often seen by us. We definitely recommend breastfeeding for young babies because breast milk is very nutritious and can improve the baby's resistance and immunity. But some babies sometimes refuse to drink breast milk. So what are the reasons why babies refuse to drink breast milk?

My baby suddenly stopped breastfeeding, what's going on?

1. Baby bloating is one of the most common problems in breastfeeding. The reasons are: one, the digestive system is not fully developed; two, feeding time is too long or the baby is not burped after feeding, which results in the air in the stomach being unable to be expelled. Newborns will refuse breast milk or even cry when they are bloated, which will have a serious impact on the mother's lactation and the health of the newborn.

2. The baby has a short tongue tie. Babies with a short tongue tie cannot open their mouths to suck on their mother's breasts like normal babies. It seems that the baby is refusing to drink breast milk.

3. Many mothers are afraid of the trouble of breastfeeding, so they choose to use a breast pump to suck out the milk and then feed the baby with a bottle. Because sucking on a pacifier is very simple, just gently suck with your mouth; while sucking on a nipple requires the newborn to use the tongue and jaw to squeeze the areola, which is more strenuous. Therefore, the baby will subconsciously choose the pacifier that saves effort, and over time he will develop an aversion to his mother's nipples.

What to do if your baby refuses to drink breast milk

1. Control the breastfeeding time well, which should be around 20-30 minutes. The sucking ability of a newborn can only be maintained for about 20 minutes at most, and he can usually be full within a period of time. If the baby only has sucking movements but no swallowing sounds, it is very likely that he is sucking on nothing.

2. Feed the baby alternately with the breasts. Let the newborn suck on one nipple for about 5 minutes, then switch to the other side. When the breasts are full of milk, they can be easily sucked out within 3-5 minutes. This allows the mother's breasts to rest alternately, and also allows the newborn to suck enough milk faster, which can also help the newborn develop regular feeding habits.

3. Make sure your breastfeeding posture and your baby's milk-sucking posture are scientifically correct.

4. Use a nursing pillow to reduce the mother's physical exertion.

Pregnant mothers need to observe their baby's breastfeeding habits more, discover the baby's abnormal behavior, find out the reasons and respond correctly. If the baby suddenly refuses breast milk, do not force the baby. You can choose the correct method to guide the baby to suck breast milk. Pregnant mothers should also pay attention to regular work and rest and balanced diet during feeding, and not eat too irritating food to give the baby a healthy breastfeeding.
