What to do if your child has pus in his ears

What to do if your child has pus in his ears

Some children will have pus discharge from their ears. The discharge from the ears may be caused by getting angry, but the possibility of problems inside the ear cannot be ruled out. Some patients with otitis media will often have pus discharge from the ears. Therefore, if a child has pus discharge from the ears, parents must not take it lightly and should take the child to the medical department for timely treatment to avoid delaying the disease.

1. Ear discharge is otitis media

If children have pus and a foul odor in their ears, it may be caused by otitis media, the most common cause of which is an upper respiratory tract viral infection. Causes: Nasal congestion caused by cold or flu can easily lead to otitis media. Blowing your nose too hard can also cause otitis media. Improper dilation of the Eustachian tube during swimming may allow bacteria to enter the middle ear. Trauma to the eardrum may allow bacteria to enter the middle ear from the external auditory canal and cause otitis media. Recommendation: Otitis media is a common cause of ear pain in children. It often occurs in children under 8 years old. It is usually a painful complication caused by upper respiratory tract infections such as the common cold or throat infection. Therefore, patients need to be carefully examined by an otolaryngologist and the right medicine should be prescribed before effective treatment can be achieved.

2 Causes of otitis media in children with pus in the ears

1. Respiratory tract and nasopharyngeal diseases: colds, rhinitis, pharyngitis, etc. The middle ear is connected to the nose and pharyngeal tube. When there are a large number of bacteria in the nasopharynx, these pathogens can easily enter the ear. Therefore, when your baby has a cold, pay special attention to whether there are any abnormalities in his ears.

2. When swimming, if there are many people in the swimming pool and the cleaning and sanitation are not done well, the bacteria or disinfectants in the water will enter the body through the child's nose and mouth, causing a cold and then otitis media.

3. Fatigue, lack of sleep or excessive physical exertion are the main reasons for decreased immunity. A regular life, a balanced diet and adequate exercise are very important for maintaining health. So, don't let your child play too hard, and make sure he gets enough rest.

4. Living in a group in a kindergarten, children’s chances of being exposed to cold germs or viruses are greatly increased, thereby increasing the possibility of suffering from otitis media.

5. Interruption of treatment: Usually the symptoms of acute otitis media will be relieved or even disappear after taking medicine for a few days. At this time, do not assume that the child has recovered based on your own judgment and stop taking medicine and treatment. Stopping treatment midway is one of the reasons why acute otitis media does not heal for a long time or even turns into a chronic disease.

6. Frequent ear digging without paying attention to ear hygiene can also cause otitis media in children.

What to do if pus comes out of the ear

What should you do if pus comes out of your ear? There are two aspects: acute treatment and daily care.

1. Acute treatment.

1) Use a sterilized cotton swab to dip an appropriate amount of hydrogen peroxide solution, first clean the pus in the ear, then wipe the liquid in the ear with the cotton swab, and finally drop hydrogen peroxide, the dosage is about 5-10 drops. After the drops are applied, gently pull the auricle and press the tragus to help the medicine enter the middle ear.

2) If conditions permit, pus can be taken for drug testing, which will help to use the medicine more accurately.

2. Daily care.

1) Increase daily exercise, improve the body's resistance, and pay attention to the combination of work and rest.

2) When your ears are inflamed, you cannot swim, and you cannot let water enter your ears when washing your face or taking a bath.

3) If you have any discomfort in your throat or mouth, you should also pay attention, because the ears, nose and throat are an integrated system that affects each other. Diseases of these organs often make ear inflammation worse.
