Fever after taking group A meningococcal vaccine

Fever after taking group A meningococcal vaccine

After a baby is born, he or she needs to receive many vaccinations. Among them, group A meningococcal vaccine is a vaccine that can reduce the risk of epidemic meningitis in babies. However, after receiving the group A meningococcal vaccine, the baby developed some fever symptoms. Why is this? In fact, this is a normal reaction, but if the baby's fever does not subside within 24 hours, he must be sent to the hospital for treatment.

When the baby was 6 and a half months old, he received the group A meningococcal vaccine at 3 pm. Before the vaccination, the baby was not sick or had a cold and was in good spirits. There were no other adverse reactions after the vaccination, except that the arm where the needle was inserted was painful, and the child was a little fussy. However, at 11 o'clock at night, his hands and feet became a little hot, his lips became a little hot when he was feeding, and he couldn't sleep well.

Because it is night time, most parents are very anxious at this time. It is the first time they encounter this situation and they don’t know what the reason is and what impact it will cause. In fact, most families with babies have thermometers. At this time, you should first measure the baby's temperature (my baby's temperature was 37.8 degrees when he was vaccinated). It is usually a low fever.

If the mother is still very worried about the baby, it is best to have cooling patches at home. Because it is a low fever, it is best to use physical cooling at first. Put a patch on the baby's forehead, then wipe the palms, soles of the feet and head with a hot towel, and feed the baby some boiled water appropriately. If it is summer, cover your baby less, and if it is winter, don’t cover him too warmly;

Generally, a low-grade fever caused by vaccination will subside within 24 hours, and the baby's spirit will not be affected and will return to the same state as before (my baby's fever was completely gone before noon the next day and he became lively);

However, if there are other adverse reactions such as vomiting, allergies, persistent low fever, high fever (above 38 degrees), etc., take your baby to see a doctor in time.

After vaccination with group A meningococcal vaccine, the body can produce humoral immune response to prevent epidemic meningitis caused by group A meningococci. Since the use of meningococcal vaccine, it has played a very important role in controlling and reducing the spread of meningococcal disease, and the epidemic has been basically controlled.

Precautions

Things to note when getting vaccinated:

1) After opening the vaccine bottle, add 5 ml of the attached diluent to each vial to dissolve, shake well and use immediately;

2) Do not use if the ampoule is broken or contains foreign matter.

Emergency vaccination: In the event of an epidemic of meningococcal meningitis, the age group can be expanded for emergency vaccination. Antibodies are produced quickly after vaccination and can take on a protective effect in about 5 days, thereby achieving the goal of controlling the epidemic and the occurrence of subsequent cases.

3) After using this vaccine, there may be a brief low fever and slight local tenderness, which usually resolves on its own. If there is a serious reaction, seek prompt treatment.

4) After vaccination, stay for observation for 15-30 minutes.
