It's edible. Pomegranate is a treasure from head to toe. Pomegranate seeds contain a large amount of vitamin C, polyphenols and other strong antioxidants, which can delay aging and prevent cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. In addition, pomegranate seed oil is rich in antioxidant factors and has a strong ability to remove free radicals from the human body and delay aging.

Benefits of pomegranate seeds :

1. Enhance capillary activity and strengthen capillary walls. By helping to protect the arterial lining from the buildup of mutants that can cause cardiovascular disease, pomegranate seed polyphenols may help strengthen blood vessel walls and improve circulation, which is particularly important for stroke patients, diabetics, arthritis, smokers, women taking oral contraceptives, and those with leg swelling and edema (an abnormal amount of fluid accumulation in the leg tissue).

2. Improve skin smoothness and elasticity. Collagen is the main protein found in the skin and is closely related to skin texture. Pomegranate seed polyphenols can help the skin resist damage from free radicals and collagen-degrading enzymes. This protective effect may help prevent the formation of premature skin wrinkles that occur due to loss of skin elasticity.

3. Reduce diabetic retinopathy and improve vision. Diabetes is prone to complications such as arterial fragility and retinal damage. Pomegranate seed polyphenols have been used for many years to treat diabetic retinopathy and improve vision.

4. Fights arthritis inflammation and reduces the risk of phlebitis. Pomegranate seed polyphenols may help improve joint mobility and aid in the repair of collagen in connective tissue, a feature that may be of interest to athletes. Additionally, it may help reduce inflammation caused by the injury. Pomegranate seed polyphenols may also inhibit histamine release, stress ulcers, and arterial damage.

How to keep pomegranate fresh

Pomegranates should be stored in a cool, dry, ventilated place, such as in a cupboard, where they can be kept for a month. Pomegranates can also be stored in the refrigerator for up to two months, depending on their ripeness.

Hanging storage : When harvesting fruits for hanging storage, a section of the fruit stalk should be left, and the fruits should be tied into a string with a thin rope and hung in a cool house. Or you can wrap the fruit with newspaper or plastic film and hang it in a room with little temperature change, and it can be stored until around the Spring Festival. If pomegranates are to be stored, they must be harvested half a month in advance. Overripe pomegranates are prone to rot if left hanging.

Stacking : Choose an empty house that is ventilated and cool, clean it, and sprinkle water appropriately to keep the room clean and moist. Then spread 5-6 cm thick straw (or fresh horsetail pine needles) on the ground, and cover it with a layer of pomegranates and a layer of pine needles. During storage, turn the pile over and check every 15-20 days, remove rotten fruits and replace pine needles. Storable varieties can be stored until April or May of the following year using this stacking method. Before storing the fruits, wash the peels with clean water and pre-cool them.

Storing in jars and pots : Rinse the jars and other containers clean, then spread a layer of wet sand with a moisture content of 5%, 5-6 cm thick, on the bottom. Place a sorghum straw handle or bamboo cylinder upright in the center to facilitate ventilation. Arrange pomegranates around the sorghum straw handle or bamboo cylinder until they are 5-6 cm away from the mouth of the jar, then cover it with wet sand. Seal the mouth of the jar or jar with plastic film and tie it tightly. Check once a month after storage and remove any rotten fruits in time. This storage method can be used until March or April of the following year.
