Why does a child snore when sleeping?

Snoring is a very common thing. It can happen in both children and adults, and people must not ignore the existence of snoring in normal times, because snoring can cause great harm to the human body, and in severe cases it may even cause suffocation. Therefore, everyone needs to pay attention to it in normal times. When a child snores, it may be caused by tonsillitis, rhinitis, or inflammation of the throat.

What causes snoring in children?

In clinical practice, we found that almost all snoring in children is caused by enlarged tonsils and adenoids.

What are the dangers of children snoring?

During the growth and development period of children, long-term hypoxia and mouth breathing will have many effects on the children: long-term mouth breathing will lead to oral and maxillofacial malformations, narrow face, retracted mandible, high palate, thick lips, etc.; hypoxia will cause asphyxial brain damage, and in severe cases, epilepsy will occur. Brain development is affected and learning and cognitive abilities decline. Behavioral and psychological changes, hyperactivity and irritability. In addition, snoring in children can also cause secretory otitis media, which can cause hearing loss, affect intellectual development, and may also lead to cardiovascular diseases.

Because snoring in children is extremely harmful, we must take precautions when children show symptoms of snoring. It is recommended that parents take their children to a regular hospital's ENT department for examination and perform surgery if necessary.
