How to prevent scars when children fall?

Children are naturally active, so it is inevitable that they will get injured when jumping around frequently. For example, falling from heights is very common. Of course, if the injury is not very serious, you only need to rest for a few days to recover, but once the skin is broken, it will probably leave scars on the fair skin, which will affect your image when you grow up. So, what can parents do to prevent this from happening?

(I) On-site handling

If the baby's skin is broken and there is obvious bleeding, parents are requested to immediately press the wound with a clean towel or paper towel at home and apply a little force to stop the bleeding. Even if the wound is dirty or there may be something inside, do not treat it yet and go directly to the hospital. This process does not need to be rushed, in principle it can arrive within 8 hours.

(ii) Doctors clean and suture the wound

When you rush to the hospital emergency department, the emergency department will conduct preliminary examination and triage based on the injury. Simply put, the baby's wound will be assigned to the corresponding department in order of severity. When a surgeon treats a wound, he or she will generally remove foreign matter from the wound, clean and disinfect it, suture it shut, and then administer tetanus antitoxin. All wounds can heal, but to achieve the best appearance and minimize scarring, suturing is the key step. This is the advantage of plastic surgery.

In plastic surgery, these wounds must be sutured in layers, first the muscles and then the subcutaneous tissue. After suturing the muscles and subcutaneous layer, even if the skin has not been sutured yet, the incision has basically been closed. If the skin is sutured at this time, the tension will be very small and the scar will not be obvious in the future.

If you are worried about the pain of having your baby's stitches removed and don't want to change the dressing, we can use imported glue to seal the wound. This way, there is no need to remove the stitches, change the dressing, and your baby can even take a bath. The glue will fall off automatically after a few days.

3. Standardized anti-scar treatment

After the incision and stitches are removed, we will take different anti-scar methods according to the location of the wound to inhibit the proliferation of later scars. For the face, we generally use scar cream (such as Dermatix®) or scar patch (such as Mepiformin®). You only need to choose one of the above. Experiments show that the effects of cream and patch are basically the same. If it is in the limbs, we can also use compression therapy. Generally, if you persist for more than 3 months, it can significantly inhibit the growth of scars for some people.

In fact, it is not just for babies. If adults accidentally get wounds and have high requirements for the appearance, they can all undergo similar debridement and suturing treatments. Of course, the cost will be relatively higher.
