What to do if your child has oily ears

Children have ears, which is actually normal because the secretions in each person's ear canal are different in form, some are oily and some are clean, so don't make a fuss about it. In daily life, just pay attention to care, clean the child's ear canal correctly, and prevent water from entering the ears when the child is bathing.

1. "Oily ears" are normal and do not harm health. For babies with oily ears, the ear canal secretions are always oily or paste-like, viscous, and dark brown in color. Generally, the ear canal secretions of most people are dry and become scaly, slightly yellowish scabs, which is called dry earwax.

Whether the baby's earwax is dry or sticky, it is normal and has a certain protective effect on human ears. It can cover the surface of the skin in the external auditory canal to prevent the skin from drying out and dust from sticking to it, prevent infection, and it can also play a preventive role in case water enters the ear canal.

2. "Oily ears" are mostly congenital and hereditary. Oily ears are more common in the southern part of the country and have poorer self-cleaning ability because of their high viscosity, like the secretion of honey. Oily ears are not a disease and do not require treatment. It is hereditary and is usually passed from father to daughter and mother to son. Oily ears - greasy cerumen, are congenital and mostly familial.

3. Don’t worry about oily ears, it is healthy. Parents just need to pay more attention to cleaning the baby’s oily ears. It is better to use a cotton swab, but it is best to go to the hospital to clean them. Use sodium bicarbonate solution and keep cleaning the external auditory canal regularly. Pay attention to prevent water from entering the external auditory canal. If water enters the external auditory canal, the earwax may swell or become infected, causing pain and stuffiness. In severe cases, local irritation may cause external auditory canal inflammation and even granulation tissue formation.

4. When washing the baby's hair, let the baby's face face up. The mother holds the baby's head and neck with one hand, and presses the baby's left and right earlobes with the thumb and middle finger respectively, so that the earlobes cover the external auditory canal to prevent water from flowing into the ear canal.
