Can a one-year-old baby use Fengyoujing?

Can a one-year-old baby use Fengyoujing?

Fengyoujing is a very common medicine, and in fact most households have it. Although Fengyoujing has many benefits, it also requires a lot of things when using it, including that it cannot be used by one-year-old babies. Fengyoujing contains camphor, so it cannot be used for one-year-old babies, otherwise it may easily cause jaundice.

Why does the instruction manual say: Pregnant women, parturients, newborns, people with skin damage and ulcers are forbidden to use this product, and children under three years old should use it with caution?

Because camphor, one of the main ingredients of Fengyoujing, is somewhat toxic. After camphor enters the human body, the glucose phosphate dehydrogenase in a normal human body will quickly combine with it, turning it into a non-toxic substance, and then excrete it from the body with urine, so no adverse reactions will occur. However, due to the reduced content of glucose phosphate dehydrogenase in pregnant women, especially if excessive use of Fengyoujing in the first three months of pregnancy, camphor will be absorbed into the body through the skin, and then pass through the placental barrier into the amniotic cavity to act on the fetus. In severe cases, it can cause fetal death and cause miscarriage. Newborns also lack glucose phosphate dehydrogenase. If the mother uses a large amount of wind oil, the camphor will penetrate into the blood through the delicate skin and mucous membranes of the newborn along with the smell, causing the red blood cells to rupture and dissolve into bilirubin. If the bilirubin level in the blood is too high, it can pass through the meninges and bind to brain cells, causing jaundice in infants. Symptoms include yellowing of the whole body, blue lips, brown urine, refusal to suck milk, weak crying, drowsiness, and other neurological symptoms such as convulsions and seizures. Even after treatment, the baby's brain function may be damaged. For the same reason, children under three years old should use it with caution.

In addition, allergic reactions may occur occasionally, such as rash, itching, facial pigmentation, etc. The skin of newborns is delicate, so it is forbidden for pregnant women, postpartum women and newborns. Pregnant women, postpartum women, newborns and other people in the family should also use it less or preferably not at all.

Home with young children should keep the medicinal oil out of the children's reach and inform them of its dangers. It is generally not a big deal if you accidentally come into contact with Fengyoujing in your daily life, and occasional contact will not usually lead to serious consequences.

There are not many reports about the toxic side effects of Fengyoujing when used by pregnant women, postpartum women, and newborns. If you are worried, it is best to go to the hospital for treatment.

How to prevent mosquito bites? Can I use products containing DEET and mosquito repellent floral water on my children?

DEET or pyrifos is the most widely used chemical mosquito repellent ingredient. It is not completely forbidden to use it on babies. The American Academy of Pediatrics believes that babies over 2 months old can use products containing less than 30% DEET, and the Canadian Ministry of Health believes that babies over 6 months old can use it. Mosquito repellent floral water contains alcohol, which is irritating to the skin of infants and young children, as the skin of newborns is delicate. Personally, I try not to use or use as little products containing DEET and mosquito repellent as possible for my children.

As for whether vitamin B1 aqueous solution can repel mosquitoes, there is currently no scientific evidence to show that it is effective. After a mosquito bite, you can rinse it with clean water or alkaline soapy water. This can relieve pain and reduce swelling because mosquito venom is acidic. The best way to prevent mosquitoes is to use physical mosquito repellent such as mosquito nets and electric mosquito swatters.

How to avoid mosquito bites and spend a peaceful summer and autumn

1. When the weather is not particularly hot, mothers can choose to dress their babies in light, breathable long sleeves and trousers. A layer of gauze can be covered on the baby's stroller and a mosquito net can be covered on the baby's bed to achieve a physical mosquito-proof effect. Wear less brightly colored clothes and mainly light-colored clothes. Take a small fan and gently fan to repel mosquitoes.

2. Do not take your children to places where mosquitoes breed, such as stagnant water and near pet nests; also, do not take your children out in the early morning or evening, because this is the time when mosquitoes are most active and bite people.

3. Pay attention to personal and environmental hygiene, and install screen windows and doors.

Above, I have given you a detailed introduction to the usage of Fengyoujing, as well as some methods to prevent mosquito bites. Children can generally use Fengyoujing, but it is not allowed for babies who are too young, as it is quite irritating to the body. We should usually take some measures to prevent mosquitoes to keep babies away from mosquito bites.
