What causes knee pain in children?

Children are naturally more active, which makes their parents worry. For example, some children like to play outdoors, but every time they come back they complain about knee pain. Of course, assuming external injuries are ruled out, if the child behaves like this every day, it is somewhat abnormal and parents need to take the child for a check-up in time. So, what exactly is causing the child's knee pain? This requires identifying whether the child has a fracture or other disease such as synovitis.

Children's leg pain needs to be carefully identified

1. Growing pains

The child's legs often hurt significantly at night, but are fine the next day. Usually no special treatment is required. When an attack occurs, simply reducing activity, resting more, and applying local massage or hot compress can relieve the symptoms.

2. Fracture

Children generally have an obvious history of trauma, and the appearance of the injured area may change, such as swelling or even bending or angulation.

3. Transient synovitis

If the inflammation is discovered in time, physical therapy is given and proper rest is provided, it will generally heal itself in about half a month to a month. However, a small number of children develop femoral head necrosis, so regular check-ups are recommended.

Timely treatment is effective

There are two major differences between children and adults with femoral head necrosis. ①The harm is greater. Children of a few years old have just begun their lives. If they unfortunately suffer from femoral head necrosis and it is not discovered in time, or if it is discovered but not treated in time or the treatment method is incorrect, resulting in disability, the children, families and society will all bear a heavy burden. ②The effect of treatment. Although the names of femoral head necrosis in children and adults are the same, the treatment effects are very different. Because children are in the process of growth and development and have strong bone regeneration ability, even if bone necrosis occurs, as long as it has not reached the late stage of deformation and disability, the effect is relatively good with correct treatment and they will not suffer from disability.

The editor would like to remind all parents that the early onset of femoral head necrosis in children is hidden, and the symptoms are mostly knee pain, hip pain, etc., which can easily be misdiagnosed. Therefore, we should pay more attention to children with such symptoms, and early treatment is crucial.
