Newborn baby with blood tumor on head

A person's physical health is very important. We all know that newborns have very weak resistance. Often susceptible to infection or diseases such as colds. Many babies will develop blood tumors on their heads after birth. Parents of babies with hematoma will be frightened, and some will even try all kinds of medical treatments in a hurry. In fact, hematoma is not scary. It is a benign tumor that is brought from the mother's womb, or it can be said to be a skin disease. In some babies, hematomas may even disappear on their own. So what is the reason why a newborn baby develops a blood tumor on his head? Let’s take a look at it together below!

1. Hemangioma is a congenital benign tumor or vascular malformation commonly found in the skin and soft tissue, formed by the proliferation of angioblasts during the embryonic period. It is more common in infants at birth or shortly after birth. Hemangiomas can occur anywhere in the body. Currently, the commonly used methods for treating hemangiomas include drug therapy, laser therapy and surgical treatment, and there is no one method that can treat all types of hemangiomas. It should be determined based on factors such as the type, location, depth of the tumor and the age of the patient.

It is often seen on the skin and subcutaneously. The lesion is the gathering and increase of blood vessels. The cavity is filled with blood and connected to the circulatory system, hence the name hemangioma. Common clinical types include: (1) Capillary hemangioma: It protrudes from the skin, is bright red or purple-red in color, has clear boundaries, and is shaped like a bayberry, hence the name bayberry-shaped hemangioma. The other type is erythema, also known as "birthmark", which does not protrude from the skin, is bright red in color, and fades under pressure. (2) Cavernous hemangioma: It is a common hemangioma with normal skin appearance. The tumor is located under the skin or in the muscle layer. It is often irregular in shape, soft and elastic to the touch. It shrinks when squeezed and then returns to its original shape. (3) Congenital arteriovenous fistula: Superficial arteriovenous fistula is mostly located under the skin and can be seen pulsating, also known as racemose hemangioma. Deep arteriovenous fistulas are often seen in the limbs, causing local limb thickening and sometimes audible murmurs.

3. Treatment methods are : (1) Spontaneous regression: Some capillary hemangiomas and cavernous hemangiomas can resolve on their own, but they grow rapidly in the first 6 months after birth and sometimes disappear during school age. (2) Erythematous nevus and capillary hemangioma can be treated with isotope patches, which leave no scars and are painless, with satisfactory results. (3) Cavernous hemangioma: It can be cured by cryotherapy, injection of sclerosing agents to embolize the blood vessels, or surgical removal. (4) Congenital arteriovenous fistula: If limb enlargement affects function, surgical treatment after arteriography can be performed.
