Why is the child's genitals red and swollen?

Why is the child's genitals red and swollen?

For boys with red and swollen genitals, it may be because the child's foreskin is too long or has phimosis. At this time, the smegma inside causes bacteria to breed, causing inflammation, resulting in redness and swelling of the genitals. At this time, some erythromycin ointment can be used for treatment. Generally, there is no need to worry too much. In addition to the above problems, the redness and swelling of the child's genitals may also be related to maternal transmission, allergic inflammation and other reasons.

Why is the child's genitals red and swollen?

1. Maternal transmission :

Many newborns have redness and swelling in their genitals when they are born. This is because before birth, the fetus is affected by female hormones through the placenta.

2. Allergy and inflammation :

Newborn boys will have symptoms of phimosis. During the period when the glans of the penis is about to be exposed but not completely exposed, urine, dirt, bacteria, etc. are hidden in the foreskin, which may cause inflammation, redness, swelling, pain, and even suppuration of the foreskin at any time.

3. Foreign matter pollution :

Some babies wear diapers for a long time, which causes the internal temperature to be too high and bacteria to breed, which can also cause allergic symptoms in the penis.

Phimosis refers to the adhesion of the inner surface of the foreskin to the glans penis. The foreskin cannot be turned up and the glans penis cannot be exposed. This is physiological phimosis. There is no abnormal feeling. As age increases, 90% of physiological phimosis can heal itself at around 3 years old. If the baby boy does not have phimosis. You may also have another condition, such as hypospadias or epispadias.

Careful and clever care

1. Clean the foreskin.

After the baby is born, you should pay attention to the condition of the penis and foreskin. You should frequently turn over the foreskin for cleaning. Use a sterilized cotton swab dipped in a little warm water, or a little sterilized liquid paraffin oil or boiled vegetable oil, to gently wipe off the smegma remaining in the foreskin, and then gently push the foreskin down to restore it. Wipe dry immediately after urination, be gentle and don't hurt the baby; clean towels should be washed and disinfected in time.

2. Pathological disinfection.

If the penis shows symptoms of inflammation, you can soak it in a 1:8000 concentration of potassium permanganate solution (pink in color) for 15-20 minutes each time, 1-2 times a day, for 5-7 days, and it will usually heal.

3. Take off the diaper.

Diapers have some obstacles in terms of breathability, so you should often free your baby's butt to keep it clean and dry: it is best to choose more breathable cotton diapers. Ensure the health of your butt.

4. Loose and comfortable.

In addition to the unclean environment, if the baby's clothes are too tight and the skin comes into contact with chemical fiber products, it will cause inflammation. Therefore, you should pay special attention to the choice of clothes. The texture should be soft, and cotton clothes should be chosen as much as possible. They should be sweat-absorbent and breathable, and loose to be suitable for active babies.

5. Medical assistance.

If the penis becomes inflamed, you can go to the hospital to have a urine test and take medicine in time to prevent bacteria from causing urinary tract infection.
