Why do children have no appetite?

Sometimes young children may have poor appetite or no appetite in their daily lives. As a parent, I should not worry about this. I should find out the cause in time. If this phenomenon occurs for a long time, it will cause great harm to the child's health. If the child does not take in enough nutrition in time, it will affect his normal development. If a child shows anorexia, timely emphasis should be placed on treatment. You can cook more food that suits his or her taste, encourage him or her to drink plenty of water, and take him or her for more exercise, all of which will help improve his or her appetite. In addition, you should vary the diet and put more effort into the color, aroma and taste, all of which will help improve your child's appetite.

Possible causes of anorexia in children include:

● Sickness

When children have symptoms such as fever, cold, cough, diarrhea, etc., it affects the activity of gastrointestinal digestive enzymes and they are prone to have a poor appetite, but this is only temporary. In addition, children's appetite may also be affected when they suffer from chronic diseases such as gastroenteritis, peptic ulcers, ascariasis, tuberculosis, etc.

● Drug effects

Sometimes children may lose their appetite when they take too much medicine due to illness. The joke "I'll feel full just by taking medicine" does make sense from a certain perspective. In addition, azithromycin and ferrous sulfate often irritate the gastrointestinal tract and cause a decrease in appetite.

● Lack of trace elements such as zinc

Zinc deficiency affects the sensitivity of taste bud cells on the tongue, affects the function of gastrointestinal digestive enzymes, and leads to a decrease in appetite. Children suffering from iron deficiency anemia may also have poor appetite.

● Climate change

When the weather is hot, the activity of gastrointestinal digestive enzymes decreases, making it easy for children to suffer from anorexia. Sometimes lack of rest can also affect the baby's appetite.

● Bad eating habits

Nowadays, there are many only children, and parents tend to spoil their children, which leads to their children having no restraint in eating and eating too much food high in sugar and protein, thus affecting their appetite. Irregular eating habits lead to loss of appetite when it is time to eat, and hunger before mealtime, which disrupts the normal digestion and absorption of the gastrointestinal tract.

● Family and environmental factors

If parents often comment on their favorite food in front of their children, intentionally or unintentionally, saying that this food doesn't look good or that food doesn't taste good, the children will easily develop anorexia and picky eating over time.
