When your baby switches to breastfeeding, pay attention to these things

Babies who eat milk powder need to switch to milk powder that is suitable for their growth and development when they reach a certain stage. At this time, it is necessary to make arrangements for milk transition. Or, switching from one brand of milk powder to another brand is also milk transition. You should also pay attention to mastering certain methods to allow your baby to safely pass through the milk transition period.

How to switch milk for babies

1. It is best not to change the milk powder before the baby is one year old. Each formula has a corresponding stage of milk powder. Because the baby's stomach and digestive system are not well developed, and the formulas of various milk powders are different, if you change to another kind of milk powder, the baby has to adapt again, which can easily cause diarrhea in the baby. However, after one year old, the baby's digestion and absorption system is more mature, and it is necessary to switch to another type of milk powder to balance the nutrition and allow him to absorb better.

2. Take it step by step and don’t be too impatient. The whole process may take one to two weeks to give babies enough time to adapt.

3. Weaning should be done when the baby is in good health, without diarrhea, fever, cold, etc. Do not switch milk during vaccination.

4. Mix the old and new milk powder: Mix with the milk powder to be replaced and drink it. Try to add appropriate amount of new milk powder to the original milk powder. Start with a small amount and slowly increase the proportion until it is completely replaced. For example: first add 1/3 of new milk powder to the old milk powder. After eating this for two or three days without any discomfort, eat 1/2 of the old and 1/2 of the new milk powder each for two or three days, then eat 1/3 of the old and 2/3 of the new for two or three days, and finally transition to completely replacing the old milk powder with the new milk powder.

5. Change meals by meal: increase the meal time every 3 days, and change the one at noon first, and continue for 3 days. Then increase it every 3 days, in the order of noon, afternoon, morning, and finally evening.

Things to note when weaning

1. Weaning should be done when the baby is in good health, and preferably one week before or after vaccination;

2. It is best not to add new complementary foods while changing milk, so as not to add burden to the baby's stomach;

3. When changing milk, it should be done at the first meal in the morning and the last meal before bedtime;

What to do if your baby is allergic to milk

During the process of changing milk, some babies may experience allergic symptoms, such as red spots on the face, chest, and back. Some vomiting and diarrhea are also caused by allergies. The situation may be more obvious in babies with a family history of allergies. When weaning, it is best not to change the brand of formula milk. Choose a good formula milk powder. As long as the baby does not suffer from repeated constipation, diarrhea, undigested milk curds in the stool, or frequent eczema and diarrhea, it means that the baby can accept this formula milk powder and it is recommended to give it to the child. When switching to milk powder for an older age group, do it gradually and don't change it all at once.
