Can babies eat fish if they have phlegm? Parenting experts tell you the answer

Parents, please take note: if your baby has phlegm, you must pay more attention to his diet. Some irritating foods such as "hair-raising foods" should not be eaten. If you want to eat fish, you must also master the correct way to eat it.

1. Coughs can be divided into exogenous coughs and endogenous coughs. Exogenous coughs can be divided into wind-cold coughs and wind-heat coughs. Different types of coughs require completely different medications, so the dietary therapy methods are also different.

2. Different types of coughs can be distinguished based on the baby's symptoms, the color of the tongue coating, and whether there is phlegm. For example, the symptoms of a cold cough are thin sputum and nasal congestion and runny nose. Wind-heat cough is characterized by a yellowish or slightly reddish tongue coating, and yellow and sticky phlegm that is difficult to cough up. The tongue coating of internal injury cough is almost white, and the cough lasts for a long time.

3. Most people know that when you have a cough, you should avoid "irritating foods" and should not eat fish. Fish has the greatest impact on "wind-heat cough". The main symptoms of wind-heat cough in babies are: fever and aversion to wind, cough and shortness of breath, excessive sputum, thick and sticky or yellow sputum, thirst and red throat, thin white or yellow tongue coating, floating and rapid pulse, and purple and stagnant fingerprints. Therefore, the cough of a baby with a cough will worsen after eating fishy foods. This is related to the fishy smell irritating the respiratory tract and the allergy to the protein in fish and shrimp foods. Babies who are allergic to certain fish and eggs should be especially careful to avoid these foods, among which silver carp and hairtail are the most affected.

4. If the baby coughs with phlegm, and the tongue coating is yellowish or slightly red, the phlegm is yellow and sticky and difficult to cough up, and the baby is thirsty, has sore throat, runny nose, fever, headache, and frequent sweating, these are symptoms of wind-heat cough. This means that the child has a lot of internal heat and should eat some food that clears the lungs, reduces phlegm and relieves cough. For example, rock sugar, Fritillaria cirrhosa, loquat, white radish, water chestnut, winter melon, etc. Spicy and irritating foods are prohibited.
