What causes left ear pain in children?

If a child's left ear hurts, it may be caused by excessive sound stimulation to the ear, or it may be caused by diseases such as otitis externa and ear herpes. It is recommended that mothers should check the cause of the disease. Children's left ear pain is usually caused by noise from environmental factors, especially for children living in cities. The noise in the city is relatively loud, so sound insulation measures must be taken.

Child's earache

1. Ear neuralgia: There are many nerves around the ears, and ear pain will occur when the ears are exposed to too strong or too long noise or unexplained stimulation.

2. Otitis externa: When the ear feels uncomfortable or itchy, some people like to dig blindly in the ear with fingernails, hairpins, knitting needles, short wooden sticks, matchsticks, etc. If you dig too hard or if you are bumped into by someone, it is easy to puncture the skin of the ear canal and cause skin infection and inflammation. This disease not only causes ear pain, but may also be accompanied by bleeding.

3. Ear herpes: This is related to viral infection. It is more common on the auricle, and the ear pain it causes is like a needle prick or burning, which is very uncomfortable. A few people may also have symptoms such as facial nerve paralysis, hearing loss, nausea, and vomiting.

4. Ear tumor: When a malignant tumor grows in the ear canal or middle ear cavity, as the disease progresses, the malignant tumor infiltrates into the surrounding tissues. In addition to symptoms such as bleeding in the ear canal and hearing loss, there will also be ear pain of varying degrees.

5. External auditory canal furuncle: When external otitis is not treated in time, or when the person is old and weak, suffers from diabetes, or the ear canal skin is soaked in water for a long time and the skin surface resistance is weakened, ear canal furuncle is likely to occur. The boil will gradually swell and fester, blocking the ear canal and causing gradually worsening pain.

6. Acute otitis media: When a bacterial suppurative infection occurs in the middle ear cavity, the pus continues to increase and directly compresses the pain-sensitive eardrum, causing intermittent pain in the ear, which may present a pulsating pain with the pulse beating.

What to do if you have ear pain

Under normal circumstances, the main cause of ear pain is otitis media. So what should we do when we have ear pain due to otitis media?

To treat otitis media, it can be cured by conservative and standardized treatment. You can use hydrogen peroxide for cleaning, take amoxicillin capsules, levofloxacin hydrochloride tablets and other treatments appropriately, or see a Chinese medicine doctor and use medicine such as Niuhuang Jiedu Pills, Huanglian Shangqing Pills, Longdan Xiegan Pills according to the syndrome differentiation, drink plenty of water, eat a light diet, avoid spicy and irritating foods, and also pay attention to the following daily precautions.

1. Try not to pick your ears

Do not use dirty, sharp objects to dig your ears to avoid infection and inflammation. The distance from the opening of the external auditory canal to the eardrum of an adult is only 3.5 cm. When using a cotton swab to clean earwax, the part that extends into the external auditory canal should be between 2.5 and 3 cm to avoid puncturing the eardrum. In addition, do not go to massage parlors or beauty salons for ear cleaning. First, there is no guarantee that the instruments are sterilized, and second, non-professionals may injure the eardrum.

2. Prevent colds

In our lives, many people suffer from otitis due to colds, so preventing colds is something that must be done.

3. Try not to let water enter the external auditory canal

When swimming or washing your hair or taking a bath, if water enters your ears, wipe it off immediately with a cotton swab to keep the external auditory canal clean and dry.

4. Relax your neck appropriately

In addition, maintaining the same posture for a long time while working, studying or playing games can easily cause compression of the delicate blood vessels and nerves in the ears. This is the reason why many patients have tinnitus but cannot find the cause. If you sit for more than an hour, you should do some physical exercise and relax your neck appropriately.
