What to do if your child has a cold, cough and yellow phlegm

The symptom of coughing is actually very common. I believe that most of my friends have experienced a cold and cough once or several times in their lives, especially in the cold winter. Some children or the elderly, or some friends who usually don’t like to go out and stay at home, will catch a cold and cough if they are not careful. The causes of colds and coughs are extremely complex, such as viral and bacterial infections. Here’s what you should do if your child has a cold or cough.

If it is caused by a cold, you usually need to see a doctor to confirm whether it is a viral infection or a bacterial infection. A routine blood test can be done to preliminarily determine whether it is a viral infection or a bacterial infection. If it is a viral cold and there is no specific medicine, it is recommended to take pediatric lung clearing and phlegm-removing effervescent tablets. The main ingredients are: gypsum, scutellaria baicalensis seed, ephedra, perilla seed (fried), bitter almond, peucedanum chinense, phellodendron chinense, and bamboo shavings. It has the effects of clearing heat and resolving phlegm, relieving cough and relieving asthma. During a fever, give your child more warm water and rest. You can also use physical cooling methods, observe your child's sweating, and change clothes frequently. In addition, you need to take good care of your baby and alleviate the symptoms. Generally, the cold will be cured after seven to ten days of recuperation.

Garlic water is generally very effective in treating cold and cough. The method is as follows: take 2 or 3 cloves of garlic, smash them and put them in a bowl, add 1 piece of rock sugar and half a small bowl of water, cover the pot, bring to a boil, then steam on low heat for 15 minutes. Drink it when it is warm, 2 or 3 times a day. Garlic is warm in nature and enters the spleen, stomach, and lung meridians. It is very effective for coughs caused by wind-cold and kidney deficiency. Adults can also use this method, but they need 7 or 8 cloves of garlic and 2 pieces of rock sugar. If accompanied by a runny nose, you can use ginger, garlic and brown sugar soup. The method is as follows: 5 slices of ginger, 12 grams of brown sugar, and 3 slices of garlic. Add water and cook for 10 minutes, then drink the soup.

We should pay attention to such a bad phenomenon, that is, some parents will blindly use various antibiotics when their children have a cold and cough. This practice is extremely wrong. If antibiotics are abused, it is very likely to cause bacteria to be susceptible to antibiotics, thus making the symptoms not improve, and it is also possible to cause various unexpected side effects due to the abuse of antibiotics.
