My child's arm suddenly hurts, what's going on?

The importance of every child to every family is self-evident. When a child has any physical illness, parents will feel very panicked. In fact, there is no need to panic. As long as they discover any abnormality of the child in time and take correct measures, it will be fine. So why does the child suddenly have arm pain? Next, let us learn about this issue together.

The degree of shoulder joint movement disorder varies at different stages of the disease, ranging from mild functional impairment to complete disappearance of joint movement. According to the occurrence and development of frozen shoulder, it can be roughly divided into three stages, namely the acute stage, the chronic stage and the recovery stage. There are no clear boundaries between the various stages, and the duration of the disease varies greatly from person to person.

①Acute phase: This is the early stage of periarthritis of the shoulder. Spontaneous shoulder pain, the pain is often persistent and the manifestations vary. Some have acute attacks, but most have chronic pain, and some just feel discomfort and restraint in the shoulder. The pain is mostly localized to the anterior and lateral side of the shoulder joint and may extend to the insertion point of the deltoid muscle, often involving the scapular area, upper arm or forearm. The pain worsens during activities, such as shrugging shoulders when putting on clothes or internally rotating shoulders. The patient cannot comb his hair or wash his face, and the affected hand cannot touch his back. Later, the shoulder pain rapidly worsened, especially at night, and the patient was afraid to lie on his side. Due to muscle spasm and pain, the range of motion of the shoulder joint gradually decreases, especially abduction and external rotation. The shoulder has a normal appearance. Local tenderness points are mostly located in the intertubercular groove and coracoid process. The subacromial bursa or deltoid muscle attachment, supraspinatus muscle attachment, superior medial angle of scapula, etc.

② Chronic stage: Shoulder pain gradually eases or disappears, but shoulder joint contracture and stiffness gradually worsen and present a "frozen state". The movement of the shoulder joint in all directions is reduced by 50%-20% compared with normal people. In severe cases, the movement of the scapulohumeral joint disappears completely, and only the scapula-thoracic joint moves. It is difficult to comb hair, dress, raise arms, and tie a belt backwards. Patients with a long course of illness may experience mild muscle atrophy, which is more common in the deltoid muscles and shoulder girdle muscles. The tenderness is mild or absent and lasts longer, usually 2-3 months.

③Recovery period: Shoulder pain basically disappears, and some patients may have mild pain. The shoulder joint slowly relaxes and the movement of the joint gradually increases. External rotation is restored first, followed by abduction and internal rotation. The length of the recovery period is related to the duration of the acute and chronic phases. The longer the freezing period, the slower the recovery period; the shorter the illness period, the faster the recovery. The whole disease can be easily cured of periarthritis of the shoulder (also called frozen shoulder and fifty shoulder).

Children of a few years old cannot express their feelings very accurately. In this case, parents should pay great attention to it. If the child suddenly has arm pain, it will be obvious that the child is different from usual. Just send the child to the hospital in time and receive treatment and examination by the doctor. Don't think too much about it, which will make things simpler.
