What to do if your baby has diarrhea

Diarrhea, which we usually call loose stools, is the most common disease in babies. Children who do not know how to control their eating are particularly prone to loose stools. This disease not only brings many negative effects to the baby's body, but also causes serious malnutrition problems in children. Therefore, how to deal with the problem of baby diarrhea is the mother’s top priority.

Let’s take a look at the common misunderstandings in pediatric diarrhea care. The first aspect is to be careful not to eat if you have diarrhea. Many people think that if they already have diarrhea, they should not eat anything and that the diarrhea will go away once their stomach is empty. In fact, this view is completely wrong. Because even if you have diarrhea, the intestines can still absorb nutrients, and diarrhea itself can cause dehydration, malnutrition and other consequences, so you need proper nutritional supplements.

The second aspect is to drink (sugar and salt) water to prevent dehydration. The "folk remedy" of drinking sugar and salt water is actually useless and may make diarrhea worse. The correct method should be oral rehydration salts, etc. The third aspect is that chicken soup can replenish lost nutrients. Chicken soup can indeed supplement nutrition, but it is not suitable for babies with diarrhea. Because drinking chicken soup at this time may cause your baby to suffer from hypernatremia. Also, don't eat oily food after having diarrhea. Only when the baby suffers from acute enteritis should he not eat oil, and for no more than 3 days. If you don't eat oil after having diarrhea, it will affect the baby's absorption of nutrients and may make the diarrhea symptoms worse.

We should know or have seen such situations, that is, once our baby has diarrhea, he will have accompanying symptoms of a particularly severe cold. When our child's cold gradually gets better, the diarrhea symptoms will also improve accordingly. So at this time, we should also focus on treating children's colds. To treat colds, timely replenishment of water is the first choice and very effective measure.
