Do babies need to take a bath every day?

In the eyes of many people, they believe that children must be bathed every day after they are born. Some people even bathe their children several times a day, at least once and up to five times. In the eyes of parents, this way of bathing is the cleanest and the most loving way for children. However, many people question this way of bathing children. They don’t know whether this way of bathing has any effect on children. So, do babies need to take a bath every day?

For newborn babies, bathing every day is a big deal. Parents must be careful. Bathing a baby is not a simple matter. You need to pay attention to the following points:

1. Pay attention to the room temperature and water temperature: Pay attention to the room temperature and water temperature when bathing your baby. Generally, the room temperature should be kept at 26-28 degrees Celsius, and the water temperature should be kept at 38-40 degrees Celsius. Every time you bathe a newborn, it should be done 1 to 2 hours before feeding to avoid spitting up. Before giving your baby a bath, you need to do some necessary preparations. First, put the clothes that need to be changed, diapers, and bath towels, washcloths, baby soap, etc. that need to be used for bathing by your side; choose a bathtub of appropriate size; adjust the temperature of the bath water to between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius, and then test the water temperature with the bend of your elbow to make sure it is not too hot; after all this is prepared, you can undress your baby and give him a bath. Don't take too long to bathe your baby, as this may cause him to catch a cold or get sick, especially when the weather is not very good. The room temperature for bathing should be around 26 to 28 degrees Celsius. If the room temperature is too low, the baby will easily catch a cold. As for the frequency of bathing the baby, it can be determined according to the climate and family conditions at the time. If it is summer, wash it at least once a day; if it is winter, wash it once a week. Sometimes, if the stool is particularly dirty, the frequency can be increased accordingly.

2. It is best not to use talcum powder after bathing a newborn: Many new parents like to apply some talcum powder on the baby’s buttocks, armpits, thighs and other body wrinkles after bathing their baby, thinking that this can protect the baby’s skin. In fact, doing so is counterproductive, because babies have a fast metabolism, sweat a lot, and urinate frequently. Too much talcum powder will form lumps or particles when it comes into contact with sweat or urine. When the baby moves, the powder lumps or particles in the wrinkles of the body rub against the delicate skin, easily causing skin redness, swelling and erosion. Therefore, it is best not to use talcum powder.

3. When washing a newborn’s face, be sure to protect the baby’s eyes: When washing a newborn’s face, be sure to protect the baby’s eyes. When washing your face, just use a towel or small gauze dipped in warm water. Some newborn babies have a lot of eye mucus, and their mothers may think that the baby is "irritable". In fact, it is not that the baby is "irritable", but that the baby is infected by bacteria in the birth canal when he is born through the mother's birth canal. Therefore, if the baby has a lot of eye mucus, the mother should take the baby to the hospital to see an ophthalmologist, or give the baby chloramphenicol eye ointment under the guidance of the doctor to treat eye infection.

4. Do not let water flow into the newborn's ears when bathing: When bathing a newborn, the mother should pay special attention to not let water enter the baby's ears. If water accidentally enters the ears, you can gently wipe it with a dry cotton swab, but do not poke too deep. Mothers often find earwax in their baby's ear canal. Generally, the baby's earwax is light yellow flakes. Some babies' earwax is ointment-like and attached to the wall of the external auditory canal. A small amount of earwax can protect hearing. These earwax generally do not require special treatment, because earwax is a secretion produced by the cerumen glands on the skin of the external auditory canal, which is medically known as cerumen. When the baby is feeding, these earwax will generally loosen with the movement of the cheeks and fall out on their own. If a mother finds that her baby's earwax has formed hard lumps, she should never dig it out by herself at home. She should go to the ENT department of the hospital and ask the doctor to drop earwax softener and remove it with special instruments. If you find purulent secretions flowing out of your baby's ears, you should go to the hospital immediately to ask an ENT physician for treatment. In short, bathing a newborn baby is a matter that requires patience and carefulness. Parents need to master some basic knowledge of bathing the baby and continue to improve in practice.

Do not use bath gel and soap frequently without bathing your child. This method of use has a great impact on the baby. The water temperature should be appropriate when bathing the child. Avoid using water that is neither too cold nor too hot. This water temperature will make the child more comfortable when bathing. Also, be careful not to catch a cold when bathing the child. Therefore, after bathing, you should hold the child in the room and put clothes on the child in time.
