How to detect jaundice in babies?

Babies may have jaundice when they are born, but for some babies the jaundice disappears naturally over time. But some babies are not so easy to recover, and some are even more serious. What is the reason for this situation? How can we determine whether a baby’s jaundice is normal or abnormal? This is something that many parents are worried about. Babies will have jaundice when they are born, but don’t worry about it. Many of them are normal, but some are not.

Jaundice is one of the most common diseases in newborns. It is divided into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. If it is physiological jaundice, mothers do not need to worry because it is a normal phenomenon. However, if it is found that it exceeds the physiological range, it is necessary to pay attention to whether there are other diseases, so mothers should pay special attention to changes in the baby's skin color after returning home.

Experts believe that jaundice is generally divided into physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. As long as it exceeds the scope of physiological jaundice, it is called pathological jaundice.

1. Physiological jaundice generally does not require hospitalization. You can sunbathe at home, drink more glucose water, and take some oral medications to support normal intestinal flora to help reduce jaundice.

2. Treatment of pathological jaundice: Hemolytic disease of the newborn often occurs in the delivery room or high-risk nursery and requires treatment such as blood transfusion, phototherapy, and medication depending on the condition. For jaundice caused by infectious diseases, attention should be paid to the application of jaundice-reducing therapy while treating the primary disease. For breast milk jaundice, sunbathing and oral anti-jaundice drugs can be taken. If necessary, stop breastfeeding for three days (temporarily replace it with formula milk for three days) and then continue breastfeeding. No hospitalization is required. Biliary atresia requires surgical treatment.

The above analysis shows the conditions of jaundice and how to deal with it. Generally speaking, jaundice is a natural phenomenon. For many babies, it disappears naturally over time. Babies with severe symptoms may need to be baked in the oven. So this can be determined according to the specific situation of the baby. We hope our introduction can help you. I also hope that some parents will not worry too much.
