What to do if your newborn baby sleeps with his head tilted

Different sleeping positions of newborns will also bring about a series of changes in their bodies. Since the brain and digestive system of newborns are not fully developed, sleeping posture is very important for them. Let’s find out what to do if a newborn sleeps with his head tilted?

1. Children like to sleep facing the sun or light, so they should often turn their heads to sleep.

2. Put something under the pillow in the direction your child likes to tilt his head, and raise it a little. Although the child's head is still facing the same direction, it will not have much impact on the head shape.

Congenital muscular torticollis is mainly caused by sternocleidomastoid muscle lesions due to birth trauma or malposition in the uterus. If torticollis in children is not corrected in time, the soft tissue on the affected side of the face may further shorten with growth and development, the deep fascia of the neck may contract and thicken, the trapezius muscle may shorten, the carotid sheath and blood vessels may contract, the skull may develop asymmetrically, and scoliosis may occur in the cervical and even upper thoracic vertebrae. As long as congenital muscular torticollis in infants is discovered in time and treated reasonably, most children can be cured within one year old. The methods are as follows: Pay attention to posture correction. Children with torticollis should adopt the correct posture to correct it.

When breastfeeding, the child should lie on the affected side. When sleeping, adjust the lying position so that the sunlight or light shines on the affected side; the sounds of sound-making and light-emitting toys, as well as the sounds of television, tape recorder, etc. should also come from the affected side; and you can use a pillow to support the affected side. When the mother holds the baby horizontally in a sitting position, she should let the affected side face upwards, and train the neck muscles by raising the head. In massage therapy, the child lies on his back, and the operator holds up the child's head with one hand and uses the fingers of the other hand to massage the muscle contracture for 10 to 15 minutes each time, and then lifts the sternocleidomastoid muscle on the affected side 10 to 20 times.

Surgical correction: If the above methods are ineffective and the child is over one year old, surgical treatment should be performed to cut off or partially remove the sternal head and clavicular head of the contracted sternocleidomastoid muscle to achieve the purpose of correcting the deformity.

The above is how to deal with a newborn baby sleeping with a tilted head. Children do not have a good sense of protection, and their parents can only adjust their children's sleeping positions through observation. Therefore, when your child sleeps with his head tilted, you must make adjustments in time to avoid affecting the child's brain development.
