What to do if your child has a repeated fever of 40 degrees

Sometimes babies have a fever in the middle of the night, and parents will definitely be worried at this time. If this happens, go to the hospital for treatment if conditions permit. If not, measure the baby's temperature with a thermometer first. If it is not above 38.5 degrees, take physical cooling measures. If it exceeds this, give the baby some medicine to reduce the temperature. Here are some things you can do if your baby has a fever at night:

If the child's body temperature is below 38.5 degrees and the child is in good spirits, you can give the child some water and rub the child's chest and back with the palms of your hands to make the child sweat and he will be fine.

When the child's body temperature is below 38.5 degrees, you can also use physical cooling methods, which is to use a hot towel to wipe the child's neck, armpits, palms, soles of the feet, etc. to help the baby cool down. Wiping the body with warm water is also a better cooling method, but it is not convenient to wipe the body when the baby is asleep in the middle of the night. In addition to wiping with a hot towel, you can also use a cold towel to apply cool compress to the child's head. This can prevent the baby's brain from being burned when the fever occurs.

Some children's antipyretic medicine should be kept at home. If the child has a fever of more than 38.5 degrees in the middle of the night, the baby should be woken up immediately to give the baby medicine, and then the physical cooling method mentioned above should be used to help the child cool down.

If your child has a fever in the middle of the night and takes medicine, you should reduce or remove the baby's quilt appropriately. Don't wrap the baby in a thick quilt just because you are afraid that the baby will be cold. Wrapping the baby in a thick quilt will affect the baby's body's heat dissipation and cooling.

When a baby has a fever, parents must pay attention, take appropriate measures, and observe the baby's symptoms. If there is no obvious improvement, the baby must be sent to the hospital in time, especially when the baby's fever exceeds 38.5 degrees. In addition, the baby should be kept in an environment with good air circulation, and the baby should not be held in the arms to avoid hindering the baby's fever from being reduced.
