What causes tears in children's eyes?

In life, we often encounter parents who bring their children under one year old to the ophthalmology department for treatment. Upon asking about the condition, we found out that the child had been crying a lot since birth. The parents originally thought that the condition would get better after a few days, but it became more serious, so they had no choice but to come to the hospital. The child had been taken to other hospitals for treatment, and the doctor prescribed some eye drops, but after using them for several months, not only did the condition not get better, but it became worse. Here are some reasons why your child's eyes tear up.

There are 4 reasons why children love to cry:

1. Congenital tear duct obstruction (neonatal dacryocystitis) This disease requires going to the ophthalmology clinic to flush the tear duct as soon as possible, one is to confirm the diagnosis, and the other is to help the child clean the purulent secretions in the tear duct. Babies under five months old can be treated by massaging the lacrimal sac, applying medication, etc. If conservative treatment is ineffective for older children, it is necessary to consider tear duct unblocking and intubation surgery.

2. Entropion of the lower eyelid (trichiasis): Parents can help their children pull the lower eyelid with tape every day under the guidance of a doctor to prevent the inverted eyelashes from sweeping too much on the black eyeball and causing keratitis. If keratitis has already occurred and the condition does not improve, you need to see a doctor and receive treatment as soon as possible.

3. Glaucoma Congenital glaucoma can currently be treated surgically, but early detection, early diagnosis, and early treatment are critical to saving the child’s eyesight. Otherwise, if it is discovered too late, even if the operation is successful, the optic nerve atrophy in the fundus will be irreversible.

4. Allergic conjunctivitis Most of these children suffer from allergic conjunctivitis and dry eyes, and need to go to the hospital for examination and medication in time.

In any case, the child is still so young, and eyes are not a small problem. If the child has problems with his eyes, it is better to take the child to the hospital for examination as soon as possible to confirm it. After all, earlier diagnosis can also allow earlier treatment, and parents can rest assured sooner. You know, the healthy growth of children is the greatest wish of parents.
