What are the symptoms of viral encephalitis in children?

As children grow older, many will suffer from different diseases at different times. And some diseases seriously affect children's physical health. I hope parents can pay more attention to this, because physical health is the most important thing for children during their growth period, so we should observe their children's behavior more often, especially during the seasons when children are more prone to illness. Viral encephalitis in children is a very serious disease. Once discovered, it needs timely treatment. So what are the symptoms of viral encephalitis in children?

1. Front-wheel drive performance

The vast majority of sick babies have a history of prodromal viral infection, and most of them have corresponding prodromal manifestations. The early symptoms are similar to those of a cold. The babies will have fever, muscle aches all over the body, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc. At this time, it is often ignored by parents, who think that the baby has just caught a cold accidentally, and do not take it seriously. By the time obvious neurological symptoms appear, the virus has invaded the baby's central nervous system and has reached a more serious stage. Therefore, during the prodromal period, parents should pay close attention to changes in the baby's condition, discover any abnormalities at any time, and go to the hospital in time.

2. Clinical manifestations of viral encephalitis vary with the severity of the disease.

The clinical manifestations vary greatly. Mild cases may cause mild fever or headache, which may heal on their own within a few days. Typical viral encephalitis has three main symptoms: headache, vomiting and meningeal irritation signs. The baby may have a persistent high fever, or just a low fever that lasts longer. The baby has an obvious headache. Young babies will not actively describe it, but they will pat their heads when they have a headache. Most babies will vomit, and it is projectile vomiting of stomach contents, as if it is coming up directly. Since the anterior fontanelle of babies under one year old has not yet closed, the bulge of the anterior fontanelle can relieve some of the increased intracranial pressure, so the incidence of typical meningeal irritation signs is relatively low. Some babies may experience mild disturbances of consciousness such as drowsiness and lack of energy due to involvement of the brain parenchyma. Severe cases may manifest as convulsions, coma, limb paralysis, irregular breathing rhythm, etc.

3. Other manifestations

Due to the different infectious pathogens, babies may also have accompanying symptoms other than the nervous system. Severe encephalitis patients may have severe manifestations such as convulsions, coma, neck stiffness, status convulsus, and even left with neurological sequelae. Don’t worry if your baby has viral encephalitis. As long as it is treated actively, most of them will recover quickly.

We already know the symptoms of viral encephalitis in children, so as parents, we need to always pay attention to our children, because children are young, and if they suffer from brain diseases, it will affect the health of other parts of the child's body. Therefore, it is recommended that parents take good care of their babies, especially in terms of diet structure, which is very critical.
