Since allergies are divided into many types, the treatment methods are different. Only by conducting allergen testing can the allergy be confirmed or ruled out. The identification of allergens is crucial for the treatment of diseases such as allergic cough, allergic dermatitis, and allergic asthma.

Allergen detection methods

It can be divided into in vivo tests and in vitro tests. In vivo testing is to apply allergens to the human body through skin tests or pricking methods, observe the body's reaction to the allergens, and determine whether the patient is allergic to these allergens; in vitro testing is to take the patient's blood or other body fluids for in vitro testing, and the allergens are not directly applied to the human body.

1. In vivo testing

1) Intradermal test:

Allergens are injected intradermally, and the skin's reaction is observed after a certain period of time. The patient's allergy to the allergen is determined based on the skin's reaction.

2) Prick test:

The prick test can be regarded as a special intradermal test. The method is to first drop the prick test solution on the skin, and then use the puncture needle to pierce the droplet and into the skin. The amount of liquid pricked on the skin is only one ten-thousandth of that in the intradermal test and is much safer. Since the skin lesions are small, the patients do not feel any pain. Our department uses the internationally standardized antigen - German Arog pricking solution. (1) Inhaled allergens include mites, mold, mugwort, elm, willow, poplar, animal fur, pollen, etc. (2) Food allergens include fish, shrimp, crab, pork, beef, mutton, milk, eggs, beans, peanuts, condiments, etc. Results are available in 15 minutes.
