One-month-old baby farts but doesn't poop

It is quite common for newborn babies who have just turned one month old to not have bowel movements and to fart a lot. For example, for babies who rely on breastfeeding, if the mother eats some food that is easy to cause internal heat, the newborn will also suffer from internal heat and constipation after drinking breast milk. For babies who drink milk powder, if they do not drink water regularly and their physique is hot, their stools may be too dry to be excreted.

1. What are the reasons why newborns do not have bowel movements?

1. Babies who drink breast milk

If your baby does not have a bowel movement for several days and only drinks breast milk, this is most likely a problem with the mother herself. Because the mother breastfeeds the baby and eats food that is easy to cause internal heat, which causes her body to become hot. In this case, if the mother feeds the newborn, the baby will also get internal heat, and over time will have difficulty defecating. Therefore, if the baby is in this condition, the mother should be careful not to eat irritating foods.

2. Babies who drink milk powder

Drinking too much milk powder can also cause inflammation, constipation and inability to defecate in newborns. For babies who get hot from drinking too much milk powder, it also depends on the baby's constitution. If the baby has a hot constitution, then give the baby less milk powder. If not, the baby can drink more milk powder, but not too much at the time. Of course, you should give your baby water regularly to prevent his stool from becoming dry and facilitate bowel movements.

2. What to do if your baby does not defecate

1. Soap

It is recommended to use soap. Although the effect is good, this method cannot be used frequently to avoid forming a habit. However, it can be used in special circumstances. First, take a small cotton swab, dip it in some soap, insert it into the baby's butt, then wet it with warm water. After a few minutes, you can take out the small cotton swab and the baby will defecate.

2. Children's enema

This method works on the same principle as soap, so use it sparingly. This is a glycerin-like liquid that is applied to the baby's butt to stimulate the baby to defecate.

3. Mommy Love

This is a medicine for treating baby's bowel movements. It is sold in general pharmacies and is edible. Mommy Love is effective in treating diarrhea, bloating, constipation, indigestion, etc. Be sure to follow the doctor's instructions when taking it when feeding. However, all medicines are poisonous to some extent, and giving some amount of medicine to babies will have some effects.

4. Massage

When massaging, we only need to massage the baby's lower abdomen to promote the baby's gastrointestinal motility, which will not only make digestion faster, but also make the baby's gastrointestinal tract unobstructed, which is helpful for defecation.
