Children can't sleep well at night

If the baby has a good sleep, it is a great relief for the parents. However, some children are particularly restless when they sleep at night. This is mostly related to gastrointestinal function. Children between three weeks and six months are most likely to have gastrointestinal diseases. If the baby cannot sleep well at night and often cries frequently, it is necessary to check if there is a gastrointestinal problem. In addition, it is not ruled out that it may be related to other factors.

Why can’t children sleep well?

Many children have trouble sleeping, which is mainly related to gastrointestinal discomfort. Children aged three weeks to six months are prone to colic and intestinal gas, and these problems will affect their sleep. There are many causes of colic, among which intolerance to formula powder is a common cause. It is recommended to replace the formula powder with a partially hydrolyzed formula. Indigestion, food intolerance or allergies, constipation, etc. can also cause gastrointestinal discomfort and affect sleep.

Sleep disturbance in some children may be related to intestinal parasites. In addition, when a child is restless in sleep, parents should pay attention to whether the child opens his mouth while sleeping. If the child's upper airway is not unobstructed, mouth breathing will occur, which is more obvious when sleeping. Generally speaking, there is nasal congestion, adenoids hypertrophy, and tonsils enlargement.

In severe cases, it can lead to airway obstruction. If such a problem occurs, you should see an ENT department as soon as possible to prevent chronic hypoxia from affecting your child's growth and development.

In addition to gastrointestinal discomfort and upper airway obstruction, illness may also be the cause of children's restless sleep, but in this case it is usually accompanied by other symptoms of the disease, such as fever or diarrhea.

The child is restless when sleeping and tosses and turns

One is physiological, which is an instinctive reaction and the way babies express their emotions and needs. It is caused by hunger, heat or cold, being frightened and disturbed by dreams, too much sleep during the day, etc. At this time, parents need to make adjustments and comfort according to the specific situation to calm the baby down and make him sleep well.

There is another pathological condition that should be given enough attention. Any disease that causes pain, itching and other discomforts will make the baby sleep disturbed, such as fever, eczema, intestinal cramps, oral cavity, pillow support, pinworm infection and so on.

In addition, babies with calcium deficiency generally suffer from sweating, bald spots on the back of the head, night terrors, and low blood calcium, which can cause the brain to become autonomic and increase nerve excitability, leading to night wakings, night terrors, restlessness, and restless sleep. You can take your baby for trace element testing.
