Why does a 1-year-old child grind his teeth?

If a one-year-old child often grinds his teeth, it may be caused by teething. Generally, no special treatment is required at this time. Other reasons may also cause one-year-old children to grind their teeth, such as parasitic infection, poor nutrition, or mental stress. These factors may lead to teeth grinding in children. Therefore, if the baby starts to grind their teeth, parents must take the child to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment. Timely treatment is due to some disease factors that cause teeth grinding.

Common causes of teeth grinding in children include parasitic diseases, excessive mental stress, endocrine disorders, and unbalanced nutrition. Children are in the stage of tooth development. If bruxism is not treated in time, it may have adverse effects on tooth development.

Teeth grinding causes excessive fatigue on the face, and can cause soreness in the mandibular joint and local muscles when eating and talking. The mandibular joint may also make a sound when the mouth is opened, which can make the child feel uncomfortable and affect his mood. Due to damage to the tooth enamel, dentin hypersensitivity occurs, and toothache occurs when exposed to cold, hot, sour, or spicy foods. The chewing muscles will continuously contract when grinding teeth. Over time, the chewing muscles will become thicker and the lower ends will become larger, which will change the child's facial shape and affect the appearance.

If the child has intestinal parasites, deworming is necessary as soon as possible; if the child has rickets, appropriate amounts of calcium and vitamin D preparations should be supplemented; provide the child with a comfortable and harmonious family environment, let the child watch less TV at night, and avoid excessive excitement; the diet should be a combination of meat and vegetables, and bad habits of picky eating should be changed; dinner should be light and not excessive. During the tooth development stage, children should be taken to see a dentist. If teeth grinding has caused adverse tooth development, the doctor will correct it in time.

For a one-year-old child, if the teeth are being bruxed due to teething, parents do not need to worry at this time. They can buy some teeth-grinding foods or teeth-grinding equipment for the child. However, if the child's teeth grinding is caused by some parasitic diseases, parents must take the child to a regular hospital for treatment to prevent other diseases. In addition, parents should pay attention to their children's diet, ensure that the baby's nutrition is balanced to prevent malnutrition, and also pay attention to ensuring the child's sleep.
