What should we pay attention to when children recover from pneumonia?

Children often have symptoms of fever and cough, especially when the cough is severe, it may also lead to pneumonia. Most children need to be hospitalized for treatment when they have pneumonia. Many parents also know the seriousness of pneumonia, but they don’t know what to pay attention to during the recovery stage of their children’s pneumonia. Let me introduce to you some precautions for children’s pneumonia recovery!

Note:

1. Pay attention to the rest of the sick child and create a quiet and comfortable rest environment for the sick child.

2. Let the sick child drink more water, eat small meals frequently, and eat nutritious and easily digestible foods. For children who choke on milk, add baby rice flour or cake powder to the milk to make it thicker. Eating this kind of milk can reduce choking. After each feeding, the nipple should be removed to let the baby rest for a while before feeding again, or the baby can be fed slowly with a small spoon. Children over 1 year old should eat easily digestible and nutritious foods such as porridge, noodles, and egg custard. Sick children have poor appetite and drink less breast milk and soup. In addition, fever and asthma increase the body's water consumption, so you should pay attention to feeding them water frequently to make up for the deficiency.

3. Keep clothes and quilts clean and dry. Be careful not to wear too thick clothes or quilts. Overheating will make the child irritable and induce asthma, aggravating breathing difficulties.

4. Keep the air in the room fresh, ventilate regularly, and be sure to close the door when opening the window to avoid convection wind. The room temperature should be maintained at 18-22℃ and the humidity should be kept appropriate to prevent dry air from being inhaled into the trachea, making it difficult to cough up phlegm. In winter, you can use an ultrasonic humidifier or place a sink, wet cloth, etc. on the heater. You can also put a kettle on the stove, open the lid, and let the water vapor evaporate.

5. The child can lie flat when quiet. If the child has asthma, you can hold the child up or use pillows or other objects to raise the back to a half-lying and half-sitting position. Frequently changing body positions can increase lung ventilation, reduce lung congestion, and promote the discharge of sputum.

6. In case of high fever, take antipyretics as required by the doctor. If the body temperature is above 38.5℃, take it once every 4 to 6 hours. After taking the antipyretic, let the child drink more water to help sweat and reduce fever. Physical cooling methods can also be used, such as alcohol rub baths, cold water bag application to the forehead, etc. For malnourished and weak children, it is not advisable to take antipyretics or alcohol rub baths. Warm water rub baths can be used to reduce the temperature, or Chinese medicine can be used to clear heat, such as Xiaoer Niuhuang San, Zixue San, etc.

When a child is sick, adult care is very important. It is best to let the child feel the warmth of their parents during the illness. Do not put pressure on the child. Let the child pay more attention to rest. At the same time, they must cooperate well with the doctor. Regarding injections and medication, you should explain it clearly to the child. Do not scare them blindly, which will only make the child afraid of treatment.
