What causes a lump in the baby's chest?

For many parents, shortly after their baby is born, they will find that their baby has lumps on the chest and the baby's breasts are a little swollen. Many parents are unaware of the situation and worry whether something has happened to their children. This is actually a very normal imagination, which is caused by the hormones being transmitted to the newborn through the mother's uterus. So let us understand what is going on in this situation.

Some children are overly sensitive to estrogen. The adrenal glands in young children also secrete small amounts of estrogen, and the breast tissue of some young girls is overly sensitive to estrogen. Under the action of estrogen, it can cause breast enlargement. In this type of breast hypertrophy, mammary gland development can be unilateral or bilateral. One type is that the entire breast is enlarged, there is no lump or tenderness in the breast; another type is that there is a lump under the areola, which is round in shape and painful to touch. First of all, do not touch the lumps in the breast all the time, and do not squeeze them at will, so as not to damage the mammary gland and cause breast disease. The result will not only affect the health of the child, but also hinder breastfeeding in the future for female babies. Observe carefully and seek medical attention if any other abnormalities are found.

If parents see that their newborn's breasts are swollen or milk is being secreted, they don't need to be nervous and should avoid squeezing the breasts with their hands to avoid bacterial infection. The skin of a newborn is very tender, its immune function is low, and its resistance to bacteria is weak. Once the skin is damaged during squeezing, bacteria will take advantage of the opportunity and enter the mammary ducts through the broken skin, especially Staphylococcus aureus infection, which can cause acute mastitis in the newborn and even sepsis in severe cases.

Therefore, if parents find that their baby has a lump on the chest, they don’t need to be too nervous. The lump will disappear with the passage of time. If you are really worried, you can take your baby to the hospital for a check-up. However, it should be noted that parents must not squeeze the lumps on the baby's chest on their own initiative. If there is any situation, it is better to go to the hospital for examination in time.
