What to do if your child is nearsighted

What to do if your child is nearsighted

Nowadays, people’s lives are basically inseparable from some electronic devices, such as mobile phones and computers. Many children now start playing with mobile phones and iPads from an early age, and also like to watch TV for a long time, which will cause children to suffer from premature vision loss and myopia. In order to better protect our children's eyes, parents must know what to do if their children are nearsighted.

In fact, many children will not tell their parents in time after they develop myopia. Therefore, it is recommended that parents take their children for regular vision checks after their children go to school, preferably once every six months, so that they can detect myopia in their children in time and take appropriate measures.

Many parents are anxious to get glasses for their children, and usually choose to go directly to the eyewear store to have their children tested and fitted, but as a result, their myopia develops faster. Children under 14 years old must use 1% atropine saline for one week before wearing glasses, and then dilate the pupil for an eye test to distinguish true from false myopia. If it is confirmed to be pseudomyopia, there is no need to wear glasses. Pay attention to eye hygiene and educate your children to develop good writing posture. They should take a break and look into the distance after 40-50 minutes of doing homework. They should insist on doing eye exercises and avoid walking, riding, lying down, reading or writing under direct sunlight or in dim light. In this way, vision will gradually recover.

If a child does suffer from true myopia, he or she should wear a pair of suitable lenses, that is, the lenses should be able to see 1.0 and have the lowest degree. As for parents' concerns that their children's myopia will gradually worsen after wearing glasses, this is actually unnecessary. As long as the degree of the glasses is not too high, it will not aggravate myopia. In order to cure their children's myopia, some parents take their children everywhere to wear instruments and do massages, but they are reluctant to take their children to regular hospitals for examination and treatment, which may very likely miss the best time for treatment for their children.

Now that we know what to do if our children are nearsighted, we suggest that if the child has pseudomyopia, some eye massage can help the child’s vision recover. Therefore, only by timely discovering that the child’s vision is deteriorating can parents take appropriate measures to protect their children’s vision according to the situation.
