Which department should children with bed-wetting go to?

It is common sense that you need to go to a department when you go to the hospital for treatment. However, when you don’t go to the hospital often, you often don’t know which department to go to, especially when you need to see some more private diseases. For example, some children have bedwetting, even at the age of four or five. At this time, parents are generally very worried. If you take your child to the hospital for examination, which department to go to is what many parents are most concerned about.

Which department should children go to for bedwetting?

Enuresis refers to the inability of children over 3 years old to control urination after falling asleep, resulting in involuntary bedwetting. Habitual enuresis can make children weak and affect their physical health and intellectual development. The causes of enuresis in children are very complicated. It is best to go to a pediatrician first. A multi-faceted examination is required, including examination of the urinary system, spine, and nervous system, etc., to find out the cause of enuresis and then carry out targeted treatment.

Causes of enuresis in children

The exact cause of enuresis is still not completely clear, but it is believed to be related to the following factors:

1. Genetic factors: 30% of the fathers of children with enuresis and 20% of the mothers of children with enuresis also suffered from enuresis when they were children. Conversely, if both parents have a history of enuresis, 40% of their sons will suffer from enuresis and 25% of their daughters will also suffer from this disease. In addition, the chance of twins and monozygotic twins suffering from enuresis at the same time is twice as high as that of dizygotic twins, which shows that enuresis has a genetic tendency.

2. Sleeping too deeply: This is a common factor. Children of this type often play too much before going to bed and sleep very deeply. They are difficult to wake up and often wet the bed in their dreams. If you drink more water before going to bed, you are more likely to wet the bed.

3. Delayed maturation of bladder function: Some children with enuresis tend to have smaller bladders than normal children. These children urinate relatively more frequently but the amount of urine is not much. This is because there is not much urine in the bladder, so it contracts and urinates.

4. Mental stress: According to clinical statistics, children's chances of bedwetting increase significantly when there is family discord, parents' divorce, loss of both parents, abuse, or before entrance examinations. However, this type of enuresis is often temporary and the mental stress will gradually disappear after a period of time.

5. Disease factors: It is rare for enuresis to be caused by organic diseases. Urinary tract infections, deformities, spina bifida, meningocele, etc. can cause enuresis. In addition, asymptomatic bacteriuria and hypercalciuria can also cause enuresis and should attract people's attention.

Many parents will beat and scold their children after discovering that their children wet the bed, thinking that it is very ignorant for their children to wet the bed at such an age, and they do not think that this is a disease. In fact, this is not only unhelpful to the child's illness, it may even aggravate the child's condition. Therefore, when encountering such a situation, parents should not scold their children, but should go to the hospital for treatment in time.
