One year and nine months old baby constipation

If you eat spicy food and don't drink much water on a regular basis, constipation can easily occur. For babies over nine months old, their daily meals are milk powder or breast milk, which are relatively simple in nutrition and can easily cause constipation in babies. In this case, you can give your baby some complementary food, make the fruits and vegetables into a puree, and eat it together with milk powder. It will increase gastric motility, promote digestion, and relieve constipation.

Constipation refers to hard and dry stools. Indigestion is one of the common causes of constipation in infants. It can usually be improved through dietary adjustments, including switching to partially hydrolyzed protein formula that does not contain palm oil. Inadequate diet, improper food ingredients, intestinal dysfunction, physical and physiological abnormalities, etc. can also cause constipation in infants and young children.

The patient's medical history and bowel movement patterns should be carefully inquired about whether there are any associated gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, growth disorders, history of medication, etc. During the physical examination, attention should be paid to checking the perineum and the area around the anus, and performing a digital anal examination. Pay attention to anal fissures, skin infections, diaper rash, etc. If a large amount of hard fecal matter is felt during digital examination or a large amount of feces is excreted after digital examination and symptoms are relieved, the diagnosis can be confirmed.

If a newborn has not passed meconium within 24 hours after birth, obstruction is highly suspected and further examination such as upright abdominal X-ray should be performed. If a baby starts to suffer from constipation right after birth, care should be taken to differentiate it from hypothyroidism and congenital megacolon. In the latter, barium enema examination may reveal segmental stenosis in addition to colon dilatation, whereas in chronic constipation the entire colon is dilated. Children with constipation should also undergo a detailed physical examination and necessary auxiliary examinations to distinguish it from neurological or organic obstruction.

1. Diet correction for breast-fed infants. Breast-fed infants are less likely to suffer from constipation. If this happens, in addition to feeding breast milk, add bowel-lubricating complementary foods, such as sweetened vegetable juice or orange juice (use fresh oranges to squeeze the juice, commercially available bottled orange juice is easily contaminated after opening the bottle), tomato juice, boiled hawthorn or red dates water. For babies over 4 months old, you can add vegetable puree or cooked fruit puree. When breast milk is insufficient, add 1 to 2 times of cow's milk with 8% sugar. Drinking 60 to 90 ml of honey water every day can also help. When breast milk is insufficient, nutritional supplements can be provided through infant formula nutrients. You can also add some probiotics to the formula to help your child digest and absorb milk or formula and treat constipation.

2. Diet correction for artificially fed infants

Artificially fed babies are more prone to constipation, but this can be avoided if sugar and complementary foods are added appropriately. If this happens, the sugar content of milk can be increased to 8%, and fruit juice (such as tomato juice, orange juice, pineapple juice, date juice and other boiled fruit juice) can be added to stimulate intestinal peristalsis. For older babies, you can add vegetable puree, chopped vegetables, fruits, porridge and other complementary foods. If the baby is older, you can add coarser cereals such as corn flour, millet, oatmeal, etc. to make porridge. At 1 to 2 years old, if various complementary foods have been added, 500 ml of milk per day is enough, and the baby can eat more coarse grains, sweet potatoes, carrots and vegetables. If conditions permit, agar jelly can be added. You can also try using heat-clearing products made from natural plants, with scientific proportions, to achieve the heat-clearing effects of one, clearing, two, moisturizing and three, comforting. There are many brands of heat-reducing products on the market, and relevant certifications, ingredients, sales history, market reputation, etc. are all the basis for judgment. For malnourished children with constipation, it is necessary to pay attention to nutritional supplements and gradually increase the intake. After the nutritional status improves, the abdominal muscles and intestinal muscles will grow and the tension will increase, and the bowel movements will become smoother naturally.
