How to correctly diagnose intussusception in children

Intussusception in children is a troublesome anorectal disease. Once the disease occurs, it will not only damage the patient's health, but also affect the patient's normal life and work. The sooner any disease is treated, the better, and intussusception in children is no exception. Therefore, many people are concerned about the symptoms of intussusception in children. Clinically, there are many symptoms of intussusception in children. Everyone should pay attention to distinguish them in order to use symptomatic medication. The following experts give an introduction:

1. Abdominal pain is an early symptom, characterized by sudden and severe, regular paroxysmal abdominal pain in normally healthy infants without any cause. The child showed paroxysmal crying, restlessness, flexed legs, and pale complexion. Each attack lasts about 10 to 20 minutes, after which the patient will fall asleep quietly or play as usual. After about a few dozen minutes, another attack will occur suddenly with the same symptoms as before. This happened repeatedly, and the child's spirits gradually deteriorated, he became exhausted and his face turned pale. This regular paroxysmal abdominal pain is caused by strong intestinal peristaltic waves pushing the invaginated intestine forward, pulling the mesentery, and causing strong contraction of the intussusceptible sheath. Some smaller sick children do not cry violently, but only show symptoms of restlessness and paleness, and then go into shock. Special vigilance is required.

2. Vomiting: Reflex vomiting occurs soon after the onset of the disease. This is due to the pulling of the mesentery. The vomitus is milk curds or food, and later there will be bile or even feces-like substances. It is a manifestation of severe intestinal obstruction.

3. Bloody stools usually appear 6 to 12 hours after the onset of the disease, which is one of the characteristics of this disease. It is often dark red jam-like stools, or fresh bloody stools or bloody water, which generally has no odor. When this disease is suspected and there is no blood in the stool, a rectal digital examination can be performed. If the digital examination is stained with blood, it has the same diagnostic significance. The reason for blood in the stool is the obstruction of blood circulation in the intestinal wall, which causes the mucosal blood to mix with intestinal mucus.

4. Abdominal mass is an abdominal sign with important diagnostic significance. The location of the mass depends on the insertion point and degree, and is generally located in the ascending colon, transverse colon and descending colon. In the early stages of the disease, the lump is mostly located in the right upper abdomen, is sausage-like, smooth and not too hard, slightly elastic, slightly movable, and tender. As the intussusception progresses, the mass may move along the colon to the left abdomen. In severe cases, it may invaginate into the rectum, and a cervix-like mass may be felt during rectal examination.

5. General condition: In the early stage of the disease, the general condition of the child is still good, with normal body temperature. The only symptoms are pale complexion, poor spirits, loss of appetite or refusal to eat. As the onset of the disease progresses, the general condition becomes increasingly serious, with symptoms such as mental depression, drowsiness, dehydration, fever, abdominal distension, and even signs of shock or peritonitis.

This is the end of the introduction to the symptoms of intussusception in children. Through this introduction, everyone should have a clearer understanding of the symptoms of intussusception in children. I believe that everyone can judge the type of intussusception in children. I hope that people who do not have intussusception in children can better prevent the occurrence of intussusception in children. I hope that this will help everyone detect the disease in time and treat it as soon as possible.
