Baby's poop looks a bit like snot

If you learn more about parenting knowledge, you will know that the excrement of the newborn is very helpful for us to check the baby's development. We can often judge whether the baby's body has abnormalities through the baby's excrement. When the baby has very watery excrement, it may be caused by improper diet. You should adjust the baby's diet, especially for breastfeeding babies. You should avoid eating spicy food.

Is it normal for a newborn's poop to be transparent and look like snot?

It is definitely abnormal for the baby's poop to be transparent and mucus-like, so parents must pay attention to it. If there is only a little white transparent mucus on the baby's stool, it means that it is caused by the baby's improper daily diet. At this time, you must pay attention to the baby's diet. If the baby is breastfed, parents should not eat greasy and spicy food. If the baby is drinking milk powder, parents should change the milk powder for the baby, preferably the kind without palm oil.

What does a newborn's poop look like?

1. Characteristics of newborn baby's stool at birth: The stool discharged by newborn babies in the first 2 to 3 days is dark green or dark green and relatively sticky. The stool at this time is called meconium, which is formed by sloughed intestinal epithelial cells, swallowed amniotic fluid and digestive juices. Meconium contains epithelial cells, vellus hair, vernix caseosa, mucus, bile and digestive enzymes. Most normal full-term infants pass meconium within 12 hours after birth. If they still do not pass meconium within 24 hours after birth, you should be alert to anal atresia or other gastrointestinal malformations. In premature infants, meconium excretion is often delayed because of less meconium formation and poor intestinal motility. If the milk supply is adequate, the baby's bowel movements will return to normal in 2 to 4 days.

2. Characteristics of baby's stool after feeding breast milk: Breastfed babies' stool is mostly golden yellow, thin and paste-like, with no special odor, but may have a sour smell, and may contain a small amount of yellow-white particles the size of pepper seeds. The number of bowel movements per day varies, from a few times to more than 10 times, and they may even have to defecate after every feeding. This is because breast milk is easy to digest, easy to excrete, and because of the reflex peristalsis of the intestines after food is input.

3. The characteristics of the baby's stool when eating formula milk: The stool of the baby who eats formula milk is light yellow and appears as a uniform hard paste, because compared with the baby who eats breast milk, formula milk cannot be completely digested like breast milk. In addition, the feces of babies who are fed formula milk also smell stinkier, more like adult feces; some babies even excrete dark green feces. The reason is that a certain amount of iron is added to general formula milk. After the iron passes through the digestive tract and comes into contact with the air, it turns dark green.

If the newborn's excretion is found to be abnormal, the newborn must be taken to a regular hospital's pediatric department for relevant examinations and treatments. This will reduce the occurrence of some problems and better maintain the health of the newborn. Some diseases can also be treated more quickly, so that the newborn's body is in a healthy state.
