Can the diphtheria-pertussis vaccine be delayed?

Can the diphtheria-pertussis vaccine be delayed?

The diphtheria and pertussis vaccine is an intramuscular injection. Generally speaking, when getting this vaccine, you must strictly follow the time and listen to the doctor's instructions to ensure a good preventive effect. Children should be aware of some precautions after vaccination, such as paying attention to rest. If some side effects occur, they should consult a doctor in time. At this time, they should pay attention to skin cleanliness, avoid taking a bath, and avoid infection.

Can the diphtheria-pertussis vaccine be delayed?

According to my country's current immunization program, newborns should start receiving the first dose of the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine three months after birth, and receive three consecutive doses, with the shortest interval between each dose not less than 28 days. One booster dose of the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine should be given when the baby is one and a half to two years old. If the baby is over three years old, the diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine should not be given again, and the baby should wait until seven years old to receive a booster dose of the refined diphtheria vaccine or the refined diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus combined vaccine.

The adsorbed diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine is injected intramuscularly at the attachment of the deltoid muscle on the outer side of the upper arm or at the upper outer 1/4 of the buttocks.

The diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine is administered in 5 doses, the first 3 doses are basic immunization, and the 4th dose is booster immunization; the 5th dose is a booster immunization with 1 dose of diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus vaccine. The interval between each dose of diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus combined vaccine for basic immunization should be ≥28 days. If the corresponding doses of vaccination cannot be completed in time due to other reasons, it is generally acceptable to postpone the vaccination, but the postponed doses must be boosted as soon as possible.

Note after baby's vaccination:

1. Take adequate rest

Babies should take adequate rest after vaccination to facilitate the formation of antibodies and avoid strenuous exercise.

2. Avoid spicy food

It is best for babies not to eat spicy food after vaccination to avoid increasing the burden on the stomach and intestines, and to drink enough water.

3. Don’t take a shower

Do not bathe your baby on the day of vaccination to prevent bacteria from passing through the needle hole and causing infection.

4. Don’t panic if you have a minor adverse reaction

Some babies will experience mild adverse reactions such as nausea, vomiting, and dizziness after vaccination. If the situation is not serious, you can observe it first and don't be anxious or panic. If the symptoms are more serious, you should immediately ask a doctor for diagnosis.

5. Handle the inoculation site carefully

After the baby completes the vaccination, first press the needle hole lightly with a cotton swab until no blood flows out. Do not rub the vaccination site with your hands, otherwise bruising will easily occur.
