One-year-old child's sleep time

One-year-old child's sleep time

Although sleeping is a waste of time, children can only develop healthily if they have a good rest. Therefore, in order for children to grow up healthily, parents must understand the sleep time of their children at each stage to avoid letting their children lack sleep. The sleep time of one-year-old children varies greatly. Children during this period should develop the habit of taking a nap. Here we will introduce the sleep time for babies of different ages.

1. Sleep time for one and a half year old babies

Babies aged 2-24 months sleep about 13-14 hours a day.

The nap time for babies aged 12-24 months is about 2.5 hours, but there are huge individual differences. Some babies only need to sleep for 1 hour, while some babies need 4 hours.

Babies aged 12-18 months sleep about 11 hours at night.

As for night wakings, 15% of babies over 1 year old wake up at night, and the time of the waking is not fixed.

Generally speaking, babies between 13 and 24 months old are able to fall asleep independently and can combine two naps during the day into one.

2. Reasonable sleep arrangement for one-year-old babies

A one and a half year old child should sleep twice during the day, each time for 1.5 to 2 hours. Usually parents arrange for their children to sleep once during the day for three hours, and the continuous sleepless time in between can extend to six or seven hours, which can easily cause extreme fatigue for the children. Child health experts believe that this is unreasonable. Only after the age of 1 and a half can you gradually transition to a sleep schedule during the day. This should be delayed for children who are weak or have suffered from serious illnesses. If the child sleeps twice during the day, the schedule of "sleep-breastfeeding-activity-another sleep before breastfeeding" is still effective. Including one feeding before going to bed at night, a baby should be fed 4 times a day.

When the child is nearly 1 and a half years old, he can stay awake for 5 hours in a row. Therefore, you can gradually transition to sleeping once during the day. This transition should be accomplished as gradually as possible to reduce the burden on the child. You can’t let your child go to bed at a certain time in the morning yesterday and change it to 12 noon today. Sudden changes in sleep and rest schedules may cause sleep disorders, mental tension, and erratic temperament in children.

Child education experts particularly emphasize that time should be set aside for outdoor activities in the daily schedule. The specific method is: twice a day in winter, each time for about 1 to 2 hours; in spring and autumn, gradually increase the amount according to climate changes; in summer, most of the time should be spent outdoors.
