Red spots on chest and arms

Red spots on chest and arms

Some friends found red spots on their chest and arms. In fact, when this happens, the most likely disease is skin disease. Measles, in particular, can cause various red spots to appear on our skin. If you encounter this situation, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for examination to see if it is measles or other skin diseases. If you have experience, you can also use medicines you are familiar with for treatment.

Symptoms of measles

1. Incubation period: The incubation period of measles is generally 10-14 days, but can be as short as about 1 week. There may be a slight rise in body temperature during the incubation period.

2. Prodromal period: The prodromal period of measles is also called the pre-eruptive period, which usually lasts 3-4 days. The main manifestations of this stage are similar to those of upper respiratory tract infection: fever, cough, runny nose, tearing, pharyngeal congestion, etc., with prominent eye symptoms, including conjunctivitis, eyelid edema, increased tears, photophobia, and an obvious horizontal line of congestion on the edge of the lower eyelid, which are extremely helpful in diagnosing measles. 2-3 days into the disease, the cheek mucosa becomes rough with varying numbers of grayish-white spots and surrounding red spots, which often merge and disappear within 2-3 days. Some cases may have some non-specific symptoms, such as general discomfort, loss of appetite, lack of energy, etc. Infants may have digestive system symptoms, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

3. Rash period: In children, the rash usually appears 3-4 days after the fever. The body temperature may suddenly rise to 40-40.5℃, and the rash may begin as sparse, irregular red maculopapular rashes.

4. Recovery period: 3-4 days after the rash appears, the child's body temperature begins to drop and the rash begins to subside in the same order as when the rash appears. In the absence of complications, other symptoms such as appetite and spirit also improve. After the rash subsides, the skin is left with bran-like desquamation and brown pigmentation, and it will heal in 7-14 days. If the body temperature does not return to normal during this period or rises again, it indicates that complications may occur.
