What to do if your baby doesn't want to take medicine

In fact, every baby is smarter than we think, they just can't express their thoughts in words. When feeding medicine to your baby, you should first take out some novel things to attract the baby's attention, then put the medicine into the baby's mouth or let the baby eat something sweet first, and then let the baby drink the medicine. When your baby is a little older, you can play games with him or her and let him or her take medicine.

Every baby is very smart. We should not try to use the same method to deal with the baby every time. The following are several tactics that mothers have actually used. If used in turns, the effect is still good.

Divert attention. When you want to feed your baby medicine, you can give him something novel, interesting or good-looking that he has never seen before. When the baby is focusing on the new thing, put the medicine into his mouth. By the time the baby reacts, the medicine has basically been swallowed.

Seduction method. There are some things or events that babies usually want but we don’t allow them to do. For example, if they like to eat candy, we definitely don’t allow them to eat it. At this time, you can use candy as bait and let the baby lick it after the baby drinks the medicine.

Game rules. Once, my baby just refused to take the medicine, and would spit it out even after drinking it. At that time, the father was very angry and wanted to lock the baby in a small room. As a result, within half a minute after entering the room, the two of them ran out happily, and the baby even drank a few gulps of water. It turned out that the father told the baby in the cabin that after drinking the medicine he would become a superman and be able to run very fast, and then after drinking a few sips of water the medicine would no longer be bitter.

The method of sharing weal and woe. You can find a toy that your baby likes or other family members, and drink with your baby, you take a sip, I take a sip. Of course, only the baby is really drinking it. Generally, babies can easily accept this method.

Praise method. Many babies respond well to praise in many things. If you are feeding them medicine, you can upgrade this routine. For example, when the mother and grandmother feed the baby medicine, the grandmother "feeds" the mother a mouthful first, and the mother pretends to be very disobedient and says "No, no, no". Then the grandmother takes the opportunity to praise the baby, saying "The baby is better than the mother, and the baby can drink the medicine". In this way, the baby is praised while watching the performance, and it can have a certain effect.

Of course, not every method is absolute, and often after using it once or twice, the baby will not be fooled again. For the sake of our babies, let’s keep up the good work and come up with new ideas. However, the mother strongly disagrees with some parents’ methods of scolding, threatening, intimidating, or even punishing their children if they don’t take medicine, because children cannot think so much, and of course they don’t like things that are hard to taste or drink. Moreover, the more this happens, the more resistant the baby will be to taking medicine in the future, and the process of feeding the medicine will become more and more difficult.

Be reasonable. This is only suitable for slightly older and partial babies. When the baby was over two years old, he had bronchitis and needed to take medicine. He seemed very reluctant because he had already taken it for two days. Mom also didn’t want to force the baby, so she didn’t try to force the baby to take the medicine. She just said calmly: "Mom doesn’t have to make you take the medicine, but you are not feeling well now. You will feel better after taking the medicine, and you can go out and play. Mom loves you so much, and I am sad and unhappy when you are sick." Then the baby actually said, "Mom, I will take the medicine." So, babies understand many things, it just depends on how we express them.
