Red spots on eyes

Red spots on eyes

If a red spot grows around the eyes, it is generally caused by congenital reasons, especially for infants, the more common ones are hemangiomas or birthmarks. Parents should not worry too much about this situation, because they are generally benign tumors. Of course, if it grows in the eye area, it will affect the appearance. If the area is large, you should go to the hospital for examination in time. After the baby is one year old, it can be treated with certain methods.

What is infantile hemangioma?

Infantile hemangioma is a benign tumor that often occurs in infants. The lesions of this disease are caused by the abnormal development of the congenital vascular network. Although it will not cause lesions, the tumor will gradually grow larger with age. Early treatment can help control the hemangioma to the smallest range. Infantile hemangiomas appear at birth or within 1 to 2 months after birth, often on the head, face, and neck, affecting the baby's appearance and causing concern for parents. However, some patients' parents do not know the symptoms of the disease, which delays their treatment.

About half of infantile hemangiomas do not appear until the first week or first year of life. Infantile hemangiomas can develop anywhere on the body, but are most common on the surface of the skin. About half of infantile hemangiomas occur on the head, face, and neck, and are most likely to cause appearance problems. As for the cause of the disease, it is not very clear, but it is known to be the result of abnormal embryonic development.

According to statistics, the average incidence rate is about 3%. Every year, about 16,000 newborns in China suffer from infantile hemangioma, with a male to female ratio of 1:3.

Experts remind parents that if they find their child has a hemangioma, do not wait. Although some hemangiomas have the possibility of resolving on their own, the chance is small. Do not delay your child's treatment just to wait for the slim chance. Hemangiomas in infants and young children should be detected and treated early.

Can infantile hemangioma be cured?

1. Surgical treatment

Surgery is the use of surgical methods to remove the diseased tissue in order to achieve the purpose of treating hemangioma. However, in general, the hemangioma lesion area is rich in blood vessels and has a large blood volume, and the amount of bleeding during surgery is extremely large, often causing severe hemorrhagic shock. A large amount of whole blood needs to be transfused during the operation, making the operation difficult and highly dangerous.

2. Laser treatment

The principle is a high-temperature superficial cauterization to coagulate the hemangioma tissue and achieve the purpose of treating the hemangioma. However, the depth of laser treatment is generally controlled within 0.2-0.4mm of the surface skin. If it exceeds 0.4mm, obvious scars will be produced, and deep hemangiomas may easily cause bleeding and scar deformities. Therefore, traditional lasers are not suitable for the treatment of deeper cavernous hemangiomas, racemose hemangiomas, lymphangiomas, strawberry hemangiomas, and mixed hemangiomas, so they cannot be widely promoted.

3. Hormone therapy

Hormone therapy is a method of taking adrenal cortex hormones orally. Although a small number of patients can achieve satisfactory therapeutic effects from oral corticosteroids, this therapy has significant side effects and should not be used casually. The pros and cons should be weighed.

4. Isotope therapy

Isotopes are highly radioactive substances that can cause great harm to the human body. Large amounts of radiation will kill white blood cells, weaken the body's hematopoietic function and reduce immunity. Isotopes can only have a certain effect on hemangiomas on a small area of the body surface. They have no good therapeutic effect on hemangiomas deep under the skin and will leave scars. In addition, the areas treated with isotopes will leave a large amount of spots or discoloration (such as vitiligo).
