Why does my baby fart so much?

Every aspect of the baby's life is what parents worry about the most. If there is a problem in one aspect, the parents will definitely be the most anxious. But the baby is young and is often breastfed or formula-fed. When babies are breastfeeding, they often accidentally inhale air into their stomachs, which causes gas. So much so that some babies fart a lot. The reasons for excessive farting are also quite complicated, so why does the baby fart so much?

Why do babies fart a lot?

Frequent farting is very common in infancy. Newborns who are just a dozen days old and have been breastfed may sometimes come out with a little poop when they fart, and their stomachs often make gurgling sounds. The gastrointestinal tract of infants is immature, which causes uncoordinated intestinal motility at different stages of the baby's life, leading to intestinal bloating, excessive flatulence, frequent farting, and frequent unexplained crying. This phenomenon is medically known as infantile colic. Infant colic refers to a healthy, well-nourished baby who cries for at least three hours a day, at least three days a week, for more than three weeks. Most babies start to show symptoms 2 to 3 weeks after birth and gradually improve after 3 to 4 months.

What to do if your baby keeps farting

1. Many times, newborns love to fart and they are all smelly farts or hiccups, and have a sour and smelly smell. This shows that your newborn has indigestion. You should reduce the amount of milk, add boiled water to reduce the intake of fat and high-protein foods, make the food thinner, and add appropriate amounts of milk containing bifidobacteria and glucose. Bifidobacteria can be converted into bifidobacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, which have the effect of inhibiting Escherichia coli and promoting food digestion and absorption. This is one of the reasons why newborns love to fart.

2. Why do newborns love to fart? And they fart empty air intermittently and continuously but without any odor. It is mostly caused by increased intestinal motility due to hunger after the gastrointestinal tract is emptied. At this time, you can often hear bowel sounds. In this case, the child is hungry and should be fed in time. Newborns' love of farting is also related to hunger.

3. Frequent farts and excessive feces are often caused by children eating too much high-starch food. At this time, you should reduce the intake of high-starch food and appropriately increase the intake of protein and fat food. This is an inconvenient reason why newborns love to fart.
