The child's urine is a little red

The child's urine is a little red

We all know that normal people's urine is light yellow, and only patients with inflammation will have slightly yellow urine. In fact, many diseases can be diagnosed based on the properties of urine. Just like some careful parents, they often find that their children's urine is a little red. At this time, parents will be very worried, not knowing what causes it, and will take the baby to the hospital for examination. So, why is the child's urine a little red?

1Baby's urine is red: It is not entirely pathological hematuria

Why is the baby's urine red? If the baby's urine is like meat washing water or bright red blood, and it is left for a long time, it may turn into soy sauce color. This indicates hematuria, which is common in acute nephritis, pyelonephritis, renal tuberculosis, urinary tract stones, urinary system trauma, systemic hemorrhagic diseases, etc. Be especially alert to childhood kidney malignant tumors (Nephroblastoma). Red urine is mostly hematuria or hemoglobinuria.

Tip: If your baby has hematuria for a long time and is accompanied by symptoms such as urinary pain, frequent urination, urgency, dizziness, etc., you should seek medical attention in time.

2Baby's urine is red: physiological hematuria

What's wrong with baby's red urine? If your baby's urine is red, first confirm whether your baby has eaten certain foods or vegetables containing color, such as red dragon fruit, blackberries, amaranth, beets, etc.

Or you have taken some drugs that can make urine appear red: such as rifampicin, iron supplements, etc.

Solution: If so, stop eating these foods or taking these medicines and observe for a period of time to see whether the urine color returns to normal.

3. Baby's urine is red: caused by strenuous exercise

It may also be hematuria caused by strenuous exercise. During strenuous exercise, the blood flow to the glomeruli decreases. The endothelial cells on the walls of the glomerular capillaries change their arrangement due to insufficient blood supply, causing the intercellular spaces to increase. Red blood cells escape through these enlarged spaces, resulting in hematuria.

Solution: This type of hematuria will generally disappear after rest and is not harmful to health, so parents do not need to panic too much.

4Baby's urine is red: Nutcracker phenomenon

There is also a special type of hematuria that often occurs during school age. When thin children grow rapidly in height and their lumbar spine overextends, the left renal vein is compressed, causing hemodynamic changes and leading to left renal bleeding. Macroscopic or microscopic hematuria may occur repeatedly. There was also left-sided low back pain, but no other abnormalities such as urine protein. This phenomenon is called the nutcracker phenomenon, or left renal vein compression syndrome.

Solution: This condition can usually be diagnosed with ultrasound, and this type of hematuria usually disappears with age.

5 Tips

In short, there are many reasons for children to have "hematuria", not all of which are kidney damage. It may also be "physiological hematuria" such as diet and medication. Parents do not need to be too nervous. If the child has hematuria for a long time and is accompanied by symptoms such as urinary pain, frequent urination, urgency, dizziness, headache, etc., further examination is needed to determine whether it is caused by kidney disease.
