Children with rhinitis have stuffy nose when sleeping at night

During the day, because the body is vertically horizontal when sitting for a long time, nasal congestion generally does not occur. However, when people lie down or lie down, secretions will flow back and cause nasal congestion. Therefore, children are more likely to have nasal congestion at night and need special attention.

What should I do if my child has a stuffy nose or a blocked nose?

What to do if a child has a stuffy nose? We often receive such inquiries online: What to do if a child has a stuffy nose, blocked nasal passages, difficulty feeding, sleeps with his mouth open, and breathes heavily? For newborns, a stuffy nose does not necessarily mean a cold. The nasal cavity of a newborn is narrow, and nasal congestion is particularly prone to occur when the nasal mucosa is swollen or there is secretion. If you have difficulty breathing through your nose and it does not affect breastfeeding, you can try raising the pillow and changing your body position to relieve the nasal congestion. If the condition does not improve, the following three situations may cause nasal congestion.

1. There is secretion in the nasal cavity. You can use a suction bulb to suck out nasal secretions.

2. There are nasal crusts in the nasal cavity. You can first use your fingers to gently squeeze the nostrils on both sides to loosen the nasal crust slightly, and then use tweezers to remove the nasal crust. If the nasal crust is not easy to loosen, you can first drop a drop of saline solution or cold boiled water into the nasal cavity. The nasal crust will be easier to loosen after moistening.

3. Congestion of nasal mucosa. If the room temperature is too low and the baby is exposed to cold air, the symptoms of nasal congestion will be more obvious. Parents do not need to worry, because this nasal congestion is caused by congestion of the nasal mucosa and is not a disease. At this time, just change to a warmer environment or apply a warm towel to your nose.

If you have a lot of mucus, sneezing, or fever, you may have a cold or allergic rhinitis; if the mucus is yellow, it may be nasal inflammation; if accompanied by snoring, it may be enlarged adenoids; you should see a doctor in these cases.
