The child suddenly has a lot of eye mucus

Every child is a treasure in the eyes of his or her parents. When parents find that there are problems with their children, they will always worry and be anxious. It seems like a simple thing that a child suddenly has a lot of eye mucus, but if you are careless and don't pay enough attention to it, it may lead to serious consequences. There are many reasons why a child suddenly has a lot of eye mucus. I hope the following specific reasons and solutions can help everyone.

If you are on fire

symptom:

My eyes are dry and there is eye mucus after sleeping. When I wake up in the morning, the eye mucus is dry and sometimes sticks to my eyelids so that I can’t open them.

It may also manifest as dry mouth, bad breath, headache, dizziness, dry eyes, unstable sleep, stuffy body, thick tongue coating, etc., which are mostly caused by excessive liver fire.

Solution:

1. Take liver-clearing and fire-reducing medicines as prescribed by the doctor: rhubarb, coptis chinensis, gardenia, honeysuckle, forsythia, isatis indigotica, etc. If you don’t understand pharmacology, you must consult a doctor first;

2. For baby's eye care, use a cotton swab dipped in warm water to moisten the dry "eye mucus" and gently wipe along the corner of the eye. Do not use too much force to avoid breaking the skin and causing infection.

3. Drink more water. Breast milk is rich in water. Children who are breastfed do not need to drink water. After they start to eat complementary food or milk powder, they should pay attention to water supplementation.

4. For breastfeeding mothers, avoid spicy and hot foods;

5. Keep your baby's oral hygiene and let him drink warm water after feeding to help clean his mouth.

If the nasolacrimal duct is blocked

symptom:

Most newborns begin to produce tears at around 3 weeks old, and the tears flow to the nose through the tiny tear ducts at the inner corners of the eyes. Within two months, you may see thick discharge from one or both of your baby's eyes, almost every day, and redness of the eyes. This is usually caused by blocked tear ducts. It is usually milky white. If the discharge is yellow, it means that the blocked tear ducts have been infected.

Solution:

1. Clean the baby's eye sockets (wipe gently in one direction with a towel) and nasal secretions; press the bridge of the nose at the eye with your index finger and thumb, squeeze and release 20 times. If the baby does not feel any discomfort, do it again after 10 minutes, 2 to 3 times a day.

2. The mother can also drop a few drops of breast milk in the eyes. The yellow tears will disappear after a few days because breast milk contains natural antibacterial substances. The doctor will use antibiotic ointment or eye drops to deal with the infection.

3. Blockage of the baby's tear ducts is common before 6 months old. If the above conservative care methods do not work after 6 months, you will need to ask a doctor to clear the tear ducts.

If it is conjunctivitis

symptom:

The conjunctiva is congested, secretions increase, there is a foreign body sensation or burning sensation in the eyes, the eyelids become heavy and droopy, and the lymph nodes in front of the ears are swollen. In severe cases, there is photophobia and even vision is affected.

Solution:

1. Rinse eyes with saline eye drops several times a day;

2. Use a warm cloth for hot compress, but do not cover the affected eye, because conjunctivitis produces a lot of secretions. If you cover the affected eye, the secretions will not be easily discharged, but will accumulate in the conjunctival sac. Covering the eye will increase the temperature of the conjunctival sac, which is more conducive to the reproduction of bacteria and aggravates conjunctivitis.

3. Follow the doctor's advice for local medication, use antibacterial or antiviral eye drops, and drop them on the conjunctiva of the eyelid. Wait for a while after dropping the eyes, and then rinse with normal saline. Or use a cotton swab to dip a small amount of liquid medicine, apply it to the surface of the conjunctiva, and then rinse with saline;

4. If it is caused by allergies, you will also need to use over-the-counter anti-tissue eye drops.

If you have an ear infection

symptom:

Ear infection causes tearing, yellow discharge from the corners of the eyes, pus in the ears, increased nasal discharge, irritability, restless sleep, crying, screaming and cold symptoms.

Solution:

1. Follow the doctor's advice to carry out ear anti-infection treatment. If the eye infection is serious, you also need to use antibacterial eye drops. Use a cotton swab to clean the secretions from the corners of the eyes and the pus flowing out of the ears. Do not insert the cotton swab into the ear hole to avoid damaging the eardrum with improper force.

2. Feed the baby vertically or hold the baby with the head high and the feet down. Do not feed the baby while lying down.

3. Treat colds as soon as possible;

4. Avoid contact with sick children;

5. Keep your nasal passages dry.

Precautions

Yellow tears in babies of a few months old are usually caused by blocked tear ducts, but for older infants or children, it may be caused by conjunctivitis, ear infection and other diseases. Parents must pay attention to their baby's health!
